The ICSS Specialist will play a key role in supporting Plant and Pipeline Operations by ensuring the reliability, optimization, and compliance of control systems. This individual will be responsible for system configuration, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring, working closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to enhance safety, minimize downtime, and improve overall system efficiency.

Job Summary / Purpose
The ICSS Specialist will play a key role in supporting Plant and Pipeline Operations by ensuring the reliability, optimization, and compliance of control systems. This individual will be responsible for system configuration, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring, working closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to enhance safety, minimize downtime, and improve overall system efficiency.
Essential Duties / Functions
- System Installation & Configuration – Install, configure, and commission DCS, SIS, FGS, SCADA, PACs, and PLCs; integrate field instruments and vendor-packaged systems into ICSS
- Programming & Logic Development – Develop and modify PLC/DCS programming, logic solvers, HMI displays, alarms, interlocks, PID loops, and control strategies
- Communication Protocols – Configure and test industrial protocols such as Modbus TCP, OPC UA, Profibus, and Ethernet IP for seamless system communication
- Testing & Commissioning – As support to Project and MOC activities, conduct pre-commissioning and commissioning tests, validate interlocks and fail-safes, and perform emergency shutdown simulations
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance Support – Diagnose and resolve hardware/software issues, perform routine surveillance, and use diagnostic tools to optimize system performance
- Process Control Strategy Optimization – Continuously monitor and tune control loops, optimize process parameters, and improve efficiency using alarm management and loop tuning tools
- Project & Technical Support – Assist in ICS upgrade planning, provide expertise during design reviews, and support software/firmware updates and technology integration
- Training & Mentorship – Provide technical training, develop troubleshooting guides, and lead workshops on automation programming, safety systems, and cybersecurity
- System Health & Performance Monitoring and Reporting – Monitor and Generate reports on system health, loop performance, alarm KPIs, and maintenance activities for continuous improvement
Minimum education required of the position
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation, Instrumentation, or Control Systems Engineering or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial control systems, preferably in an LNG, oil & gas, petrochemical, or power generation environment
- Hands-on experience with DCS, SIS, PLCs, SCADA, and Fire & Gas Systems, including in process configuration and troubleshooting
- Hands-on experience with process historians/data collection, alarm/event detection, control loop tuning, and performance monitoring tools
- Emerson Delta V DCS experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of process control philosophy, automation methodologies/architectures, and loop optimization
- Expertise in PLC/DCS programming and HMI development (e.g., DeltaV, RSLogix, Siemens TIA Portal)
- Proficiency in industrial communication protocols (Modbus, OPC UA, Profibus, Ethernet/IP)
- Strong understanding of Safety Instrumented Systems (IEC 61508/61511)
- General knowledge of:
- ICS Cybersecurity Standards & Best Practices (ISA/IEC 62443)
- Process historians and data collection systems
- Automation programming and scripting languages (IEC 61131-3)
- Temporary Defeat and Bypass Management Execution
- Virtualization technology concepts for control system applications
- Industrial Control Systems Expertise – Knowledge of DCS, PLC, SIS, SCADA, and Fire & Gas systems including configuration, integration, and troubleshooting
- Automation Programming & Logic Development – Ability to develop and modify PLC/DCS logic, HMI displays, alarms, and control strategies
- System Integration & Communications – Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC UA, Profibus, and Ethernet/IP
- Troubleshooting & System Diagnostics – Ability to diagnose and resolve control system hardware, software, and communication issues
- Process Control Optimization & Safety – Understanding of control loop tuning, alarm management, and safety systems to support reliable and safe operations
- State issued Current and Valid Driver’s License – Pursuant to PHMSA, this is a DOT covered position with all applicable laws and regulations pertaining thereof
- Field-based position with exposure to hazardous plant environments
- Ability to work on-call or extended hours as needed for system maintenance and troubleshooting
- Field environment physical requirements such as lifting, climbing, walking, standing, kneeling, etc.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
