Job Summary

The Golden Charter Academy is an innovative start-up charter school that opened in Fresno, CA in August 2021. It is a place-based, science-oriented school that emphasizes environmental stewardship, social justice, and equity. The instructional approach employs Universal Design for Learning (UDL), a strategy to provide successful pathways for student success in all learners. GCA has a formal partnership with the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, where students utilize the zoo as a living, educational laboratory. Golden Charter Academy is seeking a Student Resource Assistant is responsible for helping maintain a safe, secure, and orderly school environment by supervising students, monitoring school grounds, and supporting positive student behavior. This position assists in ensuring compliance with school policies, responds to safety concerns, and provides guidance to students during daily activities, recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and special events. The Student Resource Assistant works collaboratively with staff to promote a positive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Requirements / Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES - Responsible for all aspects pertaining to the campus welfare of our students. - Enforce Golden Charter Academy program and the school’s rules and policies. - Oversee safe and secure daily campus operations including consistent supervisory laps during school periods and activities. - Provide direction and support to Guest, Students, and Staff. - Patrols areas in and around schools as needed; confronts trespassers as necessary; assists in the intervention of individuals who are committing or suspected of committing crimes on or near school property. - Assists the principal and staff in dealing with disruptive students - Works with local law enforcement and school district officials to enhance the safety of the campus and students; provides information to staff and students concerning property protection and safety measures; maintains positive working relationships with students, staff, and outside agencies - Supervises students and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - At least one year of work experience in youth education OR at least two years of work experience in a field related to the company preferred - Ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies -Bilingual (preferred) REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Assist in the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP’s). - Facilitate and support social interactions and foster the development of positive relationships between students with disabilities and their non-disabled peers. - Assist all students by modeling appropriate (G.O.L.D.E.N) behavior and attitudes and providing emotional support and general guidance. - Assist in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe, and cooperative campus and learning environment. - Ability to communicate security and safety procedures to district staff and students

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT - Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position - Requires visual concentration and physical dexterity; required to stand for prolonged periods; required to work outdoors in inclement weather; exposed to confrontational situations; may be involved with restraint of students or adults - Physical stamina sufficient to sustain light to medium physical labor for up to 8 hours, sit and/or walk for prolonged periods of time - Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, school site to site) for sustained periods of time on hard flooring, climb slopes, stairs, ramps, and to respond to emergency situations - Physical strength sufficient to periodically lift and/or carry 15 pounds of materials or supplies; occasionally lift 40 or more pounds with assistance
