The Environmental Education & Curriculum Coordinator is a hybrid leadership role that integrates environmental education, experiential learning, and curriculum oversight to ensure high-quality, standards-aligned instruction across TK–7 programs. This position supports experiential, nature-based, and place-based learning while also serving as a part of the school’s curriculum leadership team responsible for ensuring academic integrity, alignment to California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and consistency across all instructional materials—including those selected through personalized learning pathways. The role advances schoolwide goals related to environmental literacy, student achievement, and individualized learning access. It supports LCAP Goal 3 by fostering environmental literacy through instruction, civic engagement, and data-driven evaluation aligned with the Environmental Literacy Pillars: Knowledge, Competencies, Dispositions, and Behaviors.

RESPONSIBILITIES (See full details in Job Description) 1. Environmental Education & Experiential Learning -Design and implement NGSS-aligned, outdoor, and place-based environmental education curricula. -Integrate environmental science with STEM, SEL, and sustainability education across grade levels. -Collaborate with teachers and instructional leaders to embed environmental themes into core instruction. 2. Instructional Coaching & Professional Learning -Coach teachers in both outdoor pedagogy and standards-based instruction. -Provide professional development on NGSS, CCSS, inquiry-based learning, and differentiated instruction. -Model lessons and support co-teaching in classroom, garden, and field-based settings. 3. Data, Evaluation & Compliance -Track and report student outcomes aligned with environmental literacy and academic benchmarks. -Maintain documentation including attendance, student work samples, rubrics, and reflection artifacts. -Support school-wide reporting for LCAP, WASC, charter renewal, and other accountability systems. 4. Community Partnerships & Engagement -Develop partnerships with local organizations, environmental agencies, and experts. -Support service-learning and civic engagement opportunities for students. 5. Curriculum Systems Management & Strategic Leadership -Maintain and update curriculum catalogs, publisher listings, and instructional resources. -Research and vet instructional materials, publishers, and educational programs. 6. Safety, Risk Management & Operations -Ensure compliance with all safety protocols for outdoor and field-based learning. -Conduct risk assessments and maintain emergency procedures. 7. Administrative Responsibilities -Manage scheduling, instructional materials, and program communication across grade levels. -Respond to stakeholder communication within expected timelines.
Required Knowledge & Experience -Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. -Minimum 3 years of experience in independent study, non-classroom-based (NCB), or personalized learning environments preferred. -Strong understanding of California CCSS, NGSS, and state assessment systems (CAASPP). -Experience in environmental education, outdoor learning, gardening, or place-based instruction. -Familiarity with project-based learning, inquiry-based instruction, and SEL integration. Certifications & Compliance Requirements -Valid California Driver’s License and insured vehicle for travel up to 100 miles/day. -LiveScan fingerprint clearance (required prior to employment). -TB clearance (updated every 4 years). -CPR/First Aid/AED certification (Adult & Pediatric, updated every 2 years). -Compliance with California Education Code requirements for school employment -Proof of a clear TB test dated within the last 60 days (Education Code Section 49406) upon employment and thereafter updated every four years. -Must hold a valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED and update every two years. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Employer Requirements: Education: Bachelors Required; Masters preferred; Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in an NCB or Independent Study setting preferred. Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Elementary California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the state assessment system. Skills: Exceptional research skills; ability to communicate complex pedagogical concepts to non-educators (parents); proficiency in SIS data entry and digital organization.
