Customs Clearance Team Lead / Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Customs Clearance Team Lead / Manager to oversee and manage our U.S. import and export customs clearance operations. This is a leadership role responsible for team management, compliance oversight, and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on customs expertise and proven experience leading a clearance team, handling complex and high-risk shipments, and ensuring full compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeam & Operations Management
- Lead and manage the customs clearance team, including task allocation, training, and performance oversight
- Establish, implement, and optimize customs clearance SOPs and compliance procedures
- Review and approve customs filings prepared by team members
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and team development as the department grows
Customs & Compliance Oversight
- Oversee end-to-end customs clearance processes for U.S. imports and exports
- Ensure accurate preparation and submission of documents, including:
Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, BL / AWB, ISF, AMS, Entry Summaries
- Provide final approval on HTS classification and duty assessment
- Serve as the main point of contact with CBP and Partner Government Agencies (FDA, USDA, EPA, FCC, etc.)
- Manage customs holds, exams, post-entry corrections, penalties, and audits
- Maintain audit-ready compliance records and documentation
Client & Cross-Department Coordination
- Act as the primary customs contact for key clients
- Coordinate with operations, warehouse, trucking, and finance (AR/AP) teams
- Provide compliance guidance and clearance solutions to internal stakeholders
- Identify potential compliance risks and implement corrective actions
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in U.S. customs clearance or customs brokerage
- 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and clearance procedures
- Advanced expertise in HTS classification and compliance risk management
- Experience with ABI / ACE and logistics systems (CargoWise, Magaya, etc.)
- Strong decision-making skills and ability to work under pressure
- Fluent in English (Spanish required)
Preferred Qualifications
- U.S. Customs Broker License
- Experience building or scaling a customs clearance team
- Knowledge of C-TPAT / AEO / compliance audit programs
- Experience handling high-volume or complex import operations
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
