Summary:

Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA) G1, Directorate of Prevention, Resilience, and Readiness (DPRR) integrates and synchronizes multiple efforts and programs to guide the Army's efforts to build and sustain personal readiness. The Ready and Resilience (R2) efforts will directly enhance personal and unit readiness through a holistic, collaborative, and coherent approach to increasing individual and unit readiness and resilience. Synchronization of personal readiness initiatives, along with physical, emotional, and psychological resilience initiatives, for Soldiers (Active, Guard, and Reserve), Families, and Army Civilians is essential for the improvement of performance and to deal with the rigors and challenges of a demanding profession.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead a team of prevention professionals, providing guidance, support, and oversight to ensure high-quality performance. Review and evaluate their work for accuracy, compliance, and effectiveness in achieving program goals.
  • Work collaboratively as a team and be responsible for collecting and synthesizing information for the overall Army suicide prevention strategy and the formulation of force-wide prevention strategies.
  • Translate science and research into resources for target audiences, to include Army Senior Leaders, DoD personnel, and Soldiers.
  • Crosswalk current policies to strategic guidelines, monitoring adjustments to existing program goals and objectives, updating presentation materials, and supporting the program’s risk management analytical effort.
  • Participate in all R2 governance meetings, coordinate with Commands, HQDA Staff, Army working groups, and other agencies to facilitate communications and acquire subject matter feedback.
  • Develop presentation briefings, information papers, decision papers, and technical reports on suicide prevention topics internal or external to the Army.
  • Work independently in drafting, editing, formatting, updating, and managing technical and professional documents.
  • Conduct analysis of prevention programs to include activities, outputs, and outcomes as aligned with organizational strategic plans and consolidate findings to present solutions and implementation plans to client.
  • Review and update current enterprise logic models associated with key processes for prevention programs. Analyze gaps in enterprise data collection protocols and provide processes improvement recommendations.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Previous experience managing a team.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to write, edit, proofread high level documents.
  • Excellent grammar, style, technical writing (prepare to provide writing samples)
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Must be detailed oriented.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Understanding of suicide prevention, prevention research and literature, and public health initiatives (e.g., CDC Seven Strategies for Suicide Prevention, National Strategy for Suicide Prevention).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have Master’s degree in Psychology, Public Health, or related social science with at least 10 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of suicide prevention, public health, or risk reduction experience.
  • Must be able to obtain a T1 Public Trust clearance; possession of a current clearance is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD
  • Experience working with the Army, other military Branches, and/or Department of Defense public/community health programs and initiatives. Our ideal candidate would have previous exposure to the most senior levels of the military such as the HQDA, MACOMS, or Army Service Component Commands. Prior experience in the formulation of prevention activities outside of the military space will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
