Dispatcher - 3rd shift

The Dispatcher coordinates transportation activities to ensure the timely movement of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods between plants, freezer locations, and third-party logistics providers. This role supports production flow by scheduling drivers, monitoring deliveries, and maintaining accurate shipment records while ensuring efficient communication across operations. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and flexibility to work extended hours, including overtime and weekends, based on operational needs

Key Responsibilities

Scheduling & Dispatching

  • Assign and dispatch drivers for inter-plant transfers, freezer pickups, and deliveries based on production schedules and equipment availability.
  • Verify driver and trailer readiness before dispatch.
  • Monitor routes in real time and adjust as needed to maintain on-time performance.

Communication & Coordination

  • Serve as the primary contact for all transportation activity during 3rd shift.
  • Relay clear, accurate instructions to drivers, warehouse staff, and freezer partners.
  • Communicate delays, equipment issues, and route changes promptly to management.
  • Maintain strong collaboration with dispatchers on alternate shifts to ensure smooth handoffs and consistent information flow.

Route Planning & Optimization

  • Plan efficient routes to maximize truck utilization and minimize delays.
  • Respond quickly to last-minute production or freezer changes and reassign routes when necessary.
  • Coordinate closely with operations to align dispatch priorities with production demands.

Reporting & Recordkeeping

  • Accurately record driver activity, delivery times, and equipment usage using Samsara, I-Mine, and Excel.
  • Maintain shift logs, trip sheets, and delivery confirmations in accordance with company and audit requirements.
  • Provide end-of-shift reports summarizing key dispatch activity, delays, and incidents.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure dispatch operations adhere to DOT, HOS, and company safety policies.
  • Promote safe driving behaviors and immediately report any accidents, breakdowns, or violations.
  • Support documentation for audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance.

Decision-Making Responsibilities

  • Verify driver and equipment availability before dispatching.
  • Communicate operational changes or delays between drivers, plants, and freezer locations.
  • Escalate significant service or safety issues to management immediately.
  • Make time-sensitive dispatch decisions using judgment and established guidelines.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None. This position has no direct reports.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in dispatching, logistics, or transportation coordination required.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing or food production preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook); ability to learn transportation systems (Samsara, I-Mine).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT/HOS regulations and cold-chain logistics a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 1 year of dispatching, logistics, or transportation experience required
  • Experience in manufacturing or food production preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with transportation systems (e.g., Samsara, I-Mine) preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of transportation regulations and cold-chain logistics preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily office-based; must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods during the workday.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional work in refrigerated or production areas requiring PPE (hairnets, earplugs, safety shoes, etc.).
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and operating office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including speaking, hearing, and exchanging information in person and via phone or video.
  • Ability to view computer screens and read documents for extended periods.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a combination of office and poultry processing environments. Employee splits time between a professional office setting and active production areas. Work in production areas may include exposure to:

· Cold, refrigerated environments (Fresh Processing)

· Warm or hot areas near ovens, fryers, or cooking equipment (Further Processing/Ready-to-Eat)

· Wet and humid conditions

· Moderate to high noise levels requiring hearing protection

· Floors that may be wet or slippery

· Exposure to raw poultry product and strong food-related odors

· Exposure to common food allergens used in production, including but not limited to wheat, soy, milk, and egg.

Supervisory Responsibilities

· None. This position has no direct reports.
