Design Engineer - BIW

Summary

We are seeking a skilled BIW (Body-in-White) Design Engineer to support engineering design and development activities for automotive structures. This role focuses on delivering innovative, cost-effective, and manufacturable solutions for large-scale product development programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering activities for BIW components, including feasibility studies, 3D modeling, layout reviews, and 2D drawing creation using CATIA.
• Analyze and resolve complex design challenges independently or with minimal guidance.
• Develop part specifications and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Collaborate with internal teams, adjacent component groups, and suppliers to optimize design and integration.
• Perform cost analysis, strength calculations, and material selection to meet performance and budget targets.
• Apply best practices and leverage emerging technologies to improve product quality, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency.
• Identify opportunities for design optimization and implement strategies to reduce part complexity and manufacturing costs.
• Travel to client sites as required for design reviews and collaboration.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive, Manufacturing, or related field) with 2–5 years of relevant experience, OR Associate’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working specifically with BIW components preferred.
• Proficiency in CATIA V5 (V6 experience is a plus).
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
• Knowledge of material properties, strength calculations, and cost analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
