JOB DESCRIPTION: Peer Mentor Coordinator (Island-wide)
FULL-TIME EXEMPT
Under the general direction of the Director of Operations, this position oversees recruiting, training, matching, and supervising the mentor-mentee relationship and ensures the program is grounded in trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally responsive practices. The Peer Mentor Coordinator works collectively with the team to create a transformative community experience where participants receive support and accountability in their reintegration journey. With a special emphasis on the power of peer relationships in reentry and recovery, this position promotes lived experience as a unique asset, guiding individuals through their transition from justice involvement to stable community life. These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Promote peer mentoring as a model of mutuality, empowerment, and shared lived experience.
- Coordinate and facilitate all aspects of the program's mentoring component, including recruiting, screening, training, matching, and supervising mentors and mentees.
- Screen mentors for eligibility and suitability; collaborate with other staff members and community partners to enhance services for mentees.
- With an emphasis on peer support principles, update the Mentor Training Curriculum to be tailored to the needs of justice-involved individuals, such as job readiness training, life skills development, and emotional support.
- Prepare mentees regarding the expectations of the mentoring relationship.
- Match mentors with mentees in a manner that promotes mutual respect and positive energy in the mentees' overall recovery and personal development goals.
- Ensure mentors track contact times, facilitate activities, and resolve issues; intervene when necessary.
- Organize and facilitate separate mentee and mentor support groups at various times and days monthly to accommodate the needs of mentors and mentees.
- Work closely with other program staff to encourage justice-involved participants to become involved in mentoring; connect the mentoring component with other services, such as mental health and substance abuse treatment, job training, and placement.
- Help mentors and mentees develop positive and supportive relationships.
- Support mentoring retention efforts by consistently monitoring the matches.
- Take the lead on planning and implementing support group activities, celebration ceremonies, and other events related to the mentoring component.
- Track and enter information into the data and online reporting systems.
- Provide program reports consistently and regularly as needed by the reporting requirements.
- Stay informed about relevant legislation, policies, and best practices to ensure program compliance and effectiveness.
- Assist in marketing the program, including speaking in front of groups to recruit volunteer mentors or to obtain additional program resources.
- Communicate and collaborate with the reentry team, including case managers and criminal justice partners (e.g., Probation and Parole Officers, Community Policing Officers, etc.).
- Monitor the progress of the mentoring relationships through regular contact and prepare reports as needed.
- Participate in quarterly evaluation meetings with team members, including the Project Manager, Care Coordinators, the Program Evaluator, and others involved with client care, to evaluate and improve performance measures.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
- Commitment to and comfort in working with justice-involved persons and understanding the potential value of mentoring this population.
- Excellent planning, organizing, and project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including getting along with people of diverse backgrounds and the ability to help mentors and mentees address problems and build trusting relationships.
- Presentation skills, including ease with giving recruitment presentations in small- and large-group settings; assisting with and providing training for mentors as needed.
- Administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to maintain orderly records, track and keep appointments, and respond promptly to emails and phone messages.
- A positive and flexible personality, contributing to working well with other program staff and responding calmly and thoughtfully to the many ups and downs involved in running a mentoring program.
- Personal reliable vehicle with adequate insurance; able to drive island-wide, with occasional state-wide travel.
Physical Abilities
- Climb and/or walk up and down stairs and/or walkways.
- Sit, walk, stand, and/or drive for long periods of time.
- Ability to see and respond quickly to sounds and dangerous situations.
- Ability to wear personal protective gear correctly and whenever needed.
- Lift, carry, pull, and/or push items up to 20 pounds regularly. Such motions may include reasonable bending, stooping, reaching, and twisting.
Scheduling Requirements
Regular full-time classification. General business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, including some evenings and weekends. Hours and days may vary based on the agency's needs.

- After completing the 90-day introductory period, PTO Vacation accrual is at 6.667 hours per month of active full-time employment from month 1 to month 59. From month 60 to month 119, accrual of 10 hours per month. Month 120 and beyond, accrual of 13.334 hours per month. (NOTE: Rollover of 40 hours of vacation annually)
- PTO Sick leave accrual at 6.667 hours per month of active full-time employment (NOTE: Sick Leave may not be accrued beyond 80 hours a year)
- 16 paid holidays and 2 half days off
- Bereavement leave with pay of up to 3 days

$50,000.00
