Field Application Engineer

Job Summary

The Field Application Engineer works closely with customers NPI team on product development from concept to mass production. Internally work and drive internal cross functional team to meet product specification from design, process though engineering builds. Focusing on facilitating technical communication between engineering groups and non-technical team members, the Staff Engineer will use his/her technical expertise to help identify solutions for engineering and process issues during the project development and review all technical work.

Responsibilities

• Team up with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, marketing team and customers to define a mechanical design for variety of consumer electronic products.
• Use project management skills to ensure all development activities meeting program schedule.
• Maintain broad knowledge of product design, manufacture and assembly techniques.
• Work with multi-functional teams to create RFI&RFP proposals.
• Support Mechanical Design Review with customer which includes detail in DFM and manufacturing assembly flow and fixture design.
• Oversee design risks and work with cross functional team on FEMA designs.
• Provide technical inputs to trouble shoot major quality issues during the engineering builds and production ramp.
• Help customer lock/improve design through DOE, REL validations and FACA activities.
• Interfacing factory teams, testing laboratories, and suppliers for the development and cost-requirements.
• Review and present DFx/DFM to external and internal customers.
• Maximize production efficiency through improved manufacturing processes (automation, semi-automation, and fixture design).
• Implement product quality standards through manufacturing processes.
• Plan for resources and material requirements, and workload assignments for validation, qualifications, and production activities.
• Familiar with product design, general engineering materials, FAI/Cpk and other statistic tools (Mini Tab, JMP), GD&T.
• Conduct international conference call with both US customer and manufacturing team in China.
• Travel onsite domestically and internationally for design, manufacturing or engineering builds.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with 3 years of experience in Product Design.
• Experience in metal stamping, plastic injection molding, basic manufacturing techniques using commercially available materials.
• Experienced in full design and development cycle on consumer electronic products.
• Experienced in FATP assembly and module level design is a plus.
• Practical experience in tooling design, manufacturing and DFM development is a plus.
• International/Domestic travel up to 30% of the time.
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced work environment for consumer electronic product development.
• Fluent in Mandarin is highly desired.
• The base pay range for this role is between $127,029.00 to $177,840.00 annually and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
