Join a collaborative research team supporting 190 attorneys and business professionals across all Godfrey & Kahn offices. This team provides expert legal and business research and reference services, directly impacting firm and client success. The role assists in promoting and supporting a variety of print and digital resources, including AI-enabled research tools.
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a full-time Research Specialist to join our Research Services team in our Madison or Milwaukee office. The Research Specialist performs a variety of professional librarian services including research, reference, and collection management. The Research Services team assists attorneys, paralegals, and staff in all Godfrey & Kahn offices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide quick reference and in-depth research, including background research on potential clients, industry trends, and various legal topics.
- Cite-check briefs and other documents.
- Create alerts and monitor court dockets, legislation, legal and business news.
- Manage requests for court documents, case law, and articles.
- Process invoices and communicate with vendors to resolve issues.
- Maintain physical library collection including cataloging and loose-leaf filing.
- Provide research database training and assistance to attorneys, paralegals, and staff.
- Willingness to travel to other Wisconsin based office locations on occasion.
- Prioritize and balance multiple tasks and projects.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience within a similar role, preferably in a law firm.
- ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Science.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of free and fee-based legal research databases, business resources, and subject specific databases.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to distill and present research work product in a concise, professional manner.
- Experience with library cataloging and serials software.
- Ability to communicate with all organizational levels, build relationships, and contribute to a positive working environment.
