Purpose: 

To supervise, evaluate, train, and support an assigned cohort of special education teachers so they may successfully engage with students on their caseload, complete compliant IEP documents, effectively monitor their goals progress, and support students’ post-secondary aspirations. To collaborate with the special education administration team for the benefit of the entire department and the students it serves. To contribute to creating and maintaining appropriate curriculum and instruction for students on IEPs.

The following statements regarding this exempt level position consist of duties, responsibilities, frequency, and percentages that are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. Actual duties, responsibilities, frequency, and percentages may vary depending upon location of assignments and other factors. 

Under the guidance of the Director and Assistant Director of ESS, henceforth referred to as ESS Administration, this professional will: 

 

Lead Cohort of Special Education Teachers 

  • Supervise cohort of special education teachers within 2-3 regions. 

  • Interview, recommend hires, train internally and through New Hire Orientation (NHO) as needed. 

  • Manage, review, and approve PTO requests. 

  • Process Conference Request Forms and Post-Conference Reports. 

  • Maintain documentation and follow HR steps for staff discipline procedures. 

  • Complete teacher evaluations in accordance with GOAL’s procedures. 

  • Complete formal and informal observations of special education teachers. 

  • Maintain consistent engagement with special education teachers. 

  • Hold weekly huddles with your cohort of teachers. 

  • Hold twice a month, 1:1 caseload meetings with each teacher in your cohort. 

  • Provide additional support for new teachers as determined in collaboration with ESS Administration. 

  • Provide increased support and engagement with teachers who are struggling with their job duties or professional performance. 

  • Train, and support TOSA training special education teachers in your cohort. 

  • Champion training expectations from ESS Administration and TOSAs and hold teachers accountable for participating in, completing, and adhering to the contents of training.  

 

Collaborate with Special Education Administration & Other GOAL Leadership Teams 

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with all stakeholders. 

  • Collaborate with contracted related service providers for the benefit of students on IEPs. 

  • Collaborate with other departments at GOAL for the benefit of students on IEPs (Social Work, Counseling, Regional Staff, Technology, Human Resources, etc.). 

  • Act as a liaison for the special education administrative team with the leaders in your assigned regions. 

  • Receive Student Support Services (SSS) tickets for students on IEPs and in a timely manner inform the appropriate special education teacher and related service providers while also collaborating with SSS personnel to ensure that student needs are identified and addressed. 

  • Attend IEP meetings requiring administrative support in the capacity of a Director Designee. 

  • Attend Student Assessment Plan (SAP) meetings in advance of evaluations. 

  • Utilize technology and platforms for all work at GOAL and in the special education program. 

  • District and State Testing: 

  • Complete all necessary preparations for state testing under the guidance of the Assistant Director of ESS. 

  • Assist in the completion of student enrollment processes for students identified with IEPs. 

  • Maintain thorough documentation of your work with your assigned special education teachers. 

 

Curriculum and Instruction in Special Education 

  • Contribute to creating appropriate course curriculum and instruction for special education classes alongside other special education department members. 

  • Assist in building and maintaining teachers’ courses for Transition and Foundations each quarter. 

  • Ensure the contents and delivery meet the expectations of GOAL’s curriculum director and education technology coordinator. 

 

Additional Expectations 

  • Participate in ongoing trainings within special education, including but not limited to: 

  • IEP compliance. 

  • Enrollment procedures. 

  • Course curriculum. 

  • Academic support. 

  • Transition. 

  • Affective Needs support. 

  • Co-teaching. 

  • Progress monitoring. 

  • Caseload management. 

  • Complete the Learning & Development requirements of a GOAL teacher. 

  • Attend regular coaching sessions if deemed necessary. 

  • Complete teacher coursework as prescribed. 

  • Attend regional and statewide meetings and training as required. 

  • Participate in professional learning opportunities inside and outside of GOAL. 

  • This position does not carry a student caseload. 

  • Perform other tasks and assume such responsibilities as the ESS Administration may from time-to-time assign.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Must reside in Colorado  

  • Must Possess a Colorado Driver's License   

Education:  

  • Colorado Special Education Generalist’s license or equivalent required. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field required.  

  • Master’s degree in special education preferred. 

 

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 5 years as a special education teacher is required. 

  • Minimum 1 year as an online special education teacher required. 

  • Teaching at-risk youth preferred.
