TITLE: Safety Specialist (Commercial Services Division)
LOCATION: Zeeland, MI; Middlebury, IN; or Fort Wayne, IN
REPORTS TO: VP of Safety and Risk Management

POSITION OVERVIEW
Has the responsibility for monitoring and enforcing GO Riteway company policy and procedure to assure that the facility operates in the safest and most proactive manner possible. This position is responsible for a variety of duties involving the safety of our customers, drivers, vehicles, facilities, and property. The role will act as a liaison for drivers with management, groups, schools, contract partners, and any other external parties necessary. The role will be responsible for a variety of training presentations for internal as well as external audiences. The individual will be tasked with verification and observation of safe practices both on and off site. The position is a new role and will have a variety of tasks that include operations, safety, training, and supervision.
Key Results Areas
1. Acts as the safety supervisor on in ensuring safe practices are followed on a daily basis.
- Works in conjunction with terminal operation team to ensure all safety procedures are being implemented and followed.
- Investigation of all crashes and incidents. Will also work with local law enforcement regarding all safety matters.
- Monitors fleet management programs for driver coaching and DOT compliance
- Investigate safety concerns that have been communicated to the terminal from schools, groups and citizens.
- Make Road Observations of our driving staff and provide appropriate feedback.
- Work with the Training Manager and Safety Team to coordinate and structure training programs to be used consistently throughout the organization.i. Implement and present training modules company wide ii. Works with staff to improve safety awareness and maintain a safe workplace.
- Assist and supports staff in achieving safety goals for the organization.
- Represent GO Riteway Transportation Group throughout the Commercial Services Division i. Attend and present at driver safety meetings. ii. Act as company and safety ambassador to the contracts we service.
- Research, investigate and recommend Best Practices around Driver Training.
- Keep abreast of changes to laws and regulations that may impact the company and implement and communicate updates as necessary.
- Assist in Terminal functions, activities and programs that provide a support safe, on-time and consistent service to customers.
- Understands and uses the routing system to plan and manage routes that meet specific requirements, are safe, maximize resources and meet operational needs for the District and GO Riteway
- Set up, manage and review the dispatch board to assure all work is covered and information is current.
- Use and review the Charter System to assure all components of Charter Request: driver assignment, trip details, driver call in system and billing are accurate.
- Must be able to obtain and/or retain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a "P" and "S" endorsement. Drive a motorcoach, school bus or other company owned vehicle when necessary.
- Ability to assist in the terminal's dispatch office when needed.
- Demonstrated skills involving the use of computers and other office equipment.
- Knowledge of MS Word and Excel are desirable.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and with external customers
- Work collaboratively with others
- Ability to manage and resolve conflict.
- Minimum 3-5 years management or supervisory experience
- Ability to travel at least 40% of the time
- Prior experience in transportation industry
- Prior Experience in training and development
- Bachelor's degree in safety, Adult Education or equivalent experience or training
