Role Description The Assistant Controller is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Chicago Area. This position supports the Controller in managing day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, month-end and year-end close processes, and preparation of financial statements and reports. The Assistant Controller monitors accounts payable and receivable, reconciles bank and balance sheet accounts, and helps maintain accurate inventory and cost accounting records. The role assists with budgeting and forecasting, supports internal and external audits, and helps ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements. The Assistant Controller collaborates closely with finance, operations, and leadership teams to provide timely financial insights that support decision-making and business growth.

Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, including GAAP, general ledger management, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting for a manufacturing or consumer-packaged goods environment preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems, as well as intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookup functions).
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and recommend actionable improvements.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across finance, operations, and leadership teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or progress toward certification is a plus.
- Relevant experience in an accounting or Assistant Controller role, ideally within food, manufacturing, or a related industry.
