Reports to: Survey Manager, LSIT or Licensed Surveyor
Position Overview
GNS Survey is seeking a detail-oriented Survey CAD Technician to assist with the preparation and production of various surveying deliverables under the supervision of the Survey Manager, LSIT, or Licensed Surveyor. This position involves generating boundary maps, base maps, topographic and physical feature location surveys, exhibits, field calculations for staking, as-built record drawings, and other land-surveying-related documents, like legal descriptions and maps.
Essential Functions
- Prepare maps and drawings from survey field data, including Site Plans, Topographic Maps, Right-of-Way Maps, As-Builts, and Vicinity Maps, Legal Descriptions and Exhibits.
- Develop TINs, surface models, profiles and contours from field data.
- Perform coordinate geometry (COGO) calculations: intersections, curves, inverses, and area computations.
- Adjust field calculations and verify field data accuracy.
- Prepare pre-calculations, staking, and stationing calculations for field crews.
- Adhere to company drafting standards and ensure all digital files are properly backed up and archived.
- Maintain consistent communication and availability during working hours.
- Manage time effectively to meet deadlines while sustaining accuracy and precision.
- Perform additional surveying-related duties as assigned.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Education and/or experience relevant to drafting, mapping, and land surveying.
- Proficient in AutoCAD; Civil 3D experience strongly preferred.
- Skilled in preparing surface models and contours from field data.
- Experience processing static GPS data; OPUS and Trimble Business Center experience is a plus.
- Ability to interpret survey field notes, plats, and maps.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Excel, Word, Outlook);
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently with moderate supervision.
Compensation
$34 - $37hr depending on based on experience
