  • Did you love playing SIM City as a kid?
  • Have you been doing public service work and enjoyed making a positive impact on the world, but you’d like to earn more money?
  • Do you like working in the tech industry, but…
    • …you’re feeling burned out by big tech companies where roles are very narrow?
    • …you want broader exposure to the business and more agency over your work?
    • … maybe you’d like to work on a product that is truly useful to people and you can see it in action in the real world?
    • Dreaming of launching your own business someday and want to get some experience in a company where you can learn how it all works?
    • Considering enrolling in an MBA or Masters of Urban Planning / Public Policy program, but maybe you’d rather get paid to learn all that stuff in a practical setting?

This isn't your typical job ad, and we're not looking for your typical sales person. Interested? Let's dig in.

    1️⃣ Who We Are

GMV is a multinational group with global presence in different high-tech sectors. In the US, our company was originally founded as Syncromatics in 2006 and joined GMV Global in 2015. We specialize in all things technical for public transit systems. This means we design, manufacture, and manage all kinds of different products and features, including driver interfaces, dispatch communications, passenger counters, announcers, GPS tracking, and reporting & data analytics. It also means we build real-time information systems for riders, including apps and digital signage found at bus stops. We have relationships with Apple Maps, Google Maps, Transit app, and our work goes out to millions of riders on those platforms. Our product is like air traffic control, but for buses. There are a mix of hardware and software products in this role. We hope this excites you!

Our team in the US has approximately 70 people, and 3 team members in the sales team. It’s the best of both worlds: small company feel with big company support. To learn more about the US-based intelligent transportation systems division of GMV, visit www.gmvtransit.com.

2️⃣ We're here to serve customers

Your future colleagues have a sincere interest in making the world a better place. We are helping reduce carbon emissions, fighting traffic congestion, making cities more livable, and enabling people to get around without a car (whether by choice or by necessity). Our clients are all really nice people who have committed their careers to public service and improving the communities where they work - we are proud to help them get it done.

If you want to be challenged with growth opportunities in a small team environment with high autonomy and see your work live on thousands of transit buses nationwide, then we are the team for you

    3️⃣ We’re looking for passion

We value a candidate who wants to take full responsibility for the growth of our business within their territory. We want someone who is proactive and disciplined.

We want someone who is curious. How does this technology work? Why does this client operate this way? You must enjoy asking questions and figuring out the answers. We build a relationship with prospective clients so that we really understand their needs and can assemble the best possible solution when it is time to submit a formal proposal.

You must make things happen - that's what makes this a great place to work if you have the attitude to thrive in it. For all this, you’ll be rewarded with a sense of ownership and agency that you are in control of your own work, and the opportunity to earn more based on your results.

4️⃣ What this role is about:

You’ll focus on finding and executing on new business opportunities, which includes:

    • Researching prospective customers to confirm they are a good fit.
    • Meeting prospects and clients at industry events and at their offices.
    • Conducting technology demonstrations and educating prospects about our system
    • Maintaining well organized records of client interactions
    • Managing opportunities through a formal procurement, including RFP intake, Proposal Development, and Final Presentation
    • Directing the activities of GMV colleagues across departments, including technical experts, marketing, bid/proposal, and others to deliver a complete and compelling proposal or presentation to the client.

We are looking for a candidate that is curious, has attention to detail, has excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills and is a team player.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Outgoing personality
    • Empathy for public transit staff
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong aptitude for and interest in technology
    • Bachelor’s degree in any relevant field
    • 5 years of prior professional experience in customer facing role

    Preferred, but not required:

    • Prior experience in a public sector sales or customer-facing role.
    • Prior experience in public transit planning or operations

Prior experience in our specific industry is not a requirement. We can teach you how our technology works and how the public transit system operates. If you are a good communicator, you genuinely care about helping our clients, and if you think strategically, then we can teach you the rest.

Travel: 20-40% (usually trips of 1-3 days at a time)

    5️⃣ Our commitment, and yours:

We set our team up for success and dedicate a lot of time to onboarding and training. We value internal mobility and advancement and many of us measure our tenure in decades. We're looking for someone with a similar dedication, who expects to be here for at least a few years. We’re not the kind of tech company that people hop to and from, and we’re looking for someone to grow with us over time.

We’d love the chance to show you why this could be the right place for you. 6️⃣ What we offer:

We can offer great benefits, and a career-making move for you.

    Compensation:

    • $110K - $120K base salary.
    • Commission (% of value of your won deals) with unlimited upside and quarterly bonus based on personal goals (% of base salary).
    • We offer a first-year commission bridge to help cover your ramp up period.
    • Total Compensation Target of $250K, but the sky is the limit.

There are no commission caps, complex formulas, kickers, or managers moving the goal posts. We want to set clear and consistent incentives that are aligned with what’s best for the company and help you earn as much as possible.

    Additional Benefits:

    • Generous Medical and Dental insurance benefits.
    • Generous paid parental leave after one year.
    • 401k plan with company match

Most of our work happens on Slack, but a few times per year we get together in person to collaborate within and across our teams. Our company is a small one with great culture, and you're going to have fun being a part of it.

Our team is passionate; our product makes a difference. Let us sell you on that. We’ll show you this during the interview process, and we promise you won't be disappointed.

7️⃣ To apply, you MUST send more than a resume – we need to understand who you are.

We don’t need a formal sir or madam cover letter, but we do need to see you taking the application seriously, which means writing a note to us telling us why this job appeals to you and specifically why you’d be a great fit. Most importantly, show us something about you that we can’t get from your resume. We don’t need an AI-summary of your resume and if the letter feels like it was written by AI, we will ignore it. The hiring manager and your future supervisor will personally read all complete application submissions.

In addition to completing the online application, please submit the following to the hiring manager directly: careers-na [AT] gmv [DOT] com with the subject "Business Development Manager 2026".

    • Your Resume
    • A 250-word essay describing the functional details of a technical subject about which you are personally an authority. Select a topic in technology, science, medicine, gardening, baking, or some other field that you have direct experience in, decide on an appropriate level of detail, and tell us how it works and why anyone cares. Assume your audience has a high school education.
    • An introductory email explaining why this job appeals to you, how it fits into your broader career path/plan, what you can add to our team, how your experience is relevant, etc. This is your area to shine, more so than the resume. Please do not send a generic letter. We are assessing the content and quality of your writing.

If you complete these 3 steps, you will automatically move ahead of most candidates who don't read all the instructions and simply do a "one-click" application (which will be rejected as incomplete). We know that job searching and recruiting in the AI era can feel like an arms race, and we want to humanize the process. We're asking a little more of you, and we're promising more in return.
