Overview
GMS Race Cars is seeking a highly skilled Vehicle Assembly Specialist to join our elite vehicle manufacturing team. This role is responsible for the precise setup, suspension assembly, and integration of key components for race vehicles within our program. The ideal candidate combines technical mastery, mechanical discipline, and a racer’s mindset to ensure every chassis leaves the shop ready to win.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, fit, and align suspension systems including control arms, spindles, shocks, springs, sway bars, and steering components.
- Perform precise scaling, alignment, and geometry setup to meet engineering specifications and team preferences.
- Work directly with fabrication, body, and engineering departments to ensure seamless integration across vehicle systems.
- Build and install driveline, fuel, brake, and cooling systems during full vehicle assembly.
- Conduct post-race teardown, inspection, and rebuild of chassis and suspension components.
- Interpret setup sheets, data, and alignment specs to replicate or optimize car configurations.
- Maintain meticulous attention to torque values, safety wire, thread engagement, and assembly for performance, safety, and reliability.
- Communicate effectively with fabricators, engineers, and managers to identify areas of improvement and implement process solutions.
- Assist in R&D builds, test car preparation, and fixture-based chassis validation.
- Ensure all work meets GMS Race Cars’ performance, quality, and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in race car assembly or vehicle setup (NASCAR, ARCA, Late Model, or similar).
- Deep understanding of suspension geometry, corner weights, bump steer, and Ackermann principles.
- Familiarity with chassis measuring systems, alignment tools, and scaling platforms.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to read technical drawings and setup sheets.
- Welding and fabrication experience needed (TIG/MIG).
- Proficiency with common race shop tools and fixtures.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working in a high-intensity environment.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for track support or testing.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with pull-down rigs, shock dyno, ultra force machine, and telemetry systems.
- Exposure to NASCAR or CARS Tour-level chassis programs.
- CDL or towing experience for team transport duties a plus.
