About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports and recreation activities.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic ~without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties of heavy mobile vehicles and equipment. I can disassemble vehicle engines for repairs and replace defective parts. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

- PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent works in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, crouching and laying. Sometimes works on top of and under equipment in cramped or awkward positions. Performs strenuous work while standing, lying or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 45 lbs, and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning, positioning, and adjusting parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and/or lifting devices.
- WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent may work inside or outside. Inside, they are frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperature and loud noise. Outside, they may work in bad weather, in rain or snow, or in wet or dry areas. Incumbent is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from grease, oil, dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting and moving equipment; and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures, and wears equipment such as protective eye-glasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves and other protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods.
