GM Performance Power Units (GM PPU) is seeking an experienced and highly organized Program Manager – Power Unit Utilization to lead coordination and execution across multiple technical groups supporting our next-generation Formula 1 Power Unit. As the end user of the product, the Power Unit Utilization Department encompasses a diverse range of engineering disciplines, requiring seamless collaboration throughout the organization to maximize performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.

This is a rare opportunity to be a key member of the Cadillac Formula 1 Power Unit Program—working with cutting-edge hybrid technology that will debut in the 2029 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The role is based at our U.S. headquarters in Concord, North Carolina, where the power units are designed, assembled, and validated to deliver uncompromising performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day coordination across the Power Unit Utilization Department and interfacing technical groups, ensuring alignment on deliverables, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Stay current with FIA technical and sporting regulations, identifying and communicating potential impacts to internal stakeholders and project plans.
  • Manage program risks, dependencies, and technical documentation to maintain full transparency across engineering teams.
  • Drive clear communication channels across reliability, performance, controls, and trackside operations to deliver maximum power unit effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain structured reporting tools and data-driven insights to support continuous improvement in performance metrics.
  • Facilitate problem-solving initiatives and escalation processes to ensure timely resolution of issues affecting program success.

Department Integration Areas

Reliability

  • Direct teardown and component analysis scheduling.
  • Oversee interdepartmental data flow for reliability trends, failure modeling, and predictive analytics.
  • Manage the component lifecycle database and parts library.
  • Review failure statistics and establish best-practice processes for failure prediction and continuation judgment.

Controls

  • Coordinate software and hardware development efforts, from initial requirement capture to validation testing.
  • Support code release planning, regression testing, and hardware-in-the-loop validation.
  • Maintain awareness of control system performance and ensure proper documentation and version control.

Vehicle Performance

  • Oversee vehicle simulation workstreams, including pre-race and post-race analysis.
  • Support integration of performance data between dyno, track, and simulation outputs.
  • Ensure key insights are effectively communicated to all stakeholders to guide development priorities.

Trackside Support

  • Develop and maintain operational procedures and methodologies for trackside execution.
  • Manage power unit allocation and component usage across events.
  • Coordinate factory-to-track communications, training programs, and race simulations.
  • Lead competitor analysis efforts to benchmark and identify opportunities for strategic performance gains.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Program Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Proven experience managing complex, multidisciplinary technical programs—ideally within motorsport, automotive, or aerospace sectors.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills; able to translate technical challenges into actionable plans.
  • Strong understanding of hybrid power unit systems and the operational environment of Formula 1 or similarly high-performance programs.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced, detail-oriented team culture focused on precision and technological excellence.
