Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the creation and improvement of standard operating procedures, work instructions, and additional team documentation
- Assist with installation, setup, and daily operation of AM equipment under supervision.
- Perform basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and simple repairs to support machine uptime.
- Help with calibration activities and record results accurately.
- Carry out part processing and post-processing tasks following work instructions.
- Support consumables management, inventory tracking, and lab organization to maintain a safe workspace.
- Enter basic data into IFS or similar systems for job tracking and equipment status.
- Identify and suggest simple improvements to workflow and efficiency in the production area.
- Assist in preparing and handling metal powders, including weighing, blending, and documenting material usage.
- Support material characterization activities (e.g., particle size analysis, density checks) under guidance.
- Participate in build parameter development and optimization trials for different alloys.
- Help monitor and record process variables during builds to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Collaborate with engineers on design-for-additive-manufacturing (DfAM) principles for performance components.
- Assist in preparing CAD models for printing, including orientation, support generation, and slicing.
- Review build simulations and provide feedback on potential issues related to distortion or support removal.
- Contribute ideas for lightweighting and performance improvements using AM design strategies.
- Develop programming code (Python) to automate repetitive and iterative tasks such as parameter development, data presentation and process improvement.
- Execute independent design tasks such as fixture designs, challenge geometry coupon creation, and demonstration articles.
- Other duties as assigned
- Current college/university or technical program students seeking degrees in engineering, technology, or related field (degree not required)
- Experience working in a machine shop and understanding of safety protocols working with equipment
