This is a full-time position and receives all benefits afforded to regular employees. This position requires working 40 hours per week.
Summary: This position performs technical duties in processing crime scenes and managing the property evidence room.
Essential Job Functions: The following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned. This classification is part of the broadband compensation plan. Duties listed may not be performed by all incumbents, and levels may be assigned based on the skills and proficiencies demonstrated by each incumbent.
- Responds to crime scenes or other incidents, including after hours as required; locates, identifies, collects, processes, and preserves items of potential evidence; maintains chain-of-custody.
- Manages the evidence room; receives items from other members of the department to ensure secure and safe storage.
- Transports evidence to the GBI lab.
- Utilizes software database programs to trace firearms; enters shell casings into NIBIN system.
- Maintains and empties drug collection boxes at department precincts.
- Coordinates the return of property to the public.
- Pulls property or evidence for investigators or other officers for review as requested.
- Completes evidence room audits.
- Fulfills court orders related to the disposal of items in the evidence room.
- Maintains and updates evidence management software programs; troubleshoots login issues for officers.
- Completes property room pickups for items that have been properly disposed of.
- Testifies in criminal case as required.
- Restocks the evidence packaging station for use by other department personnel.

Qualifications:Minimum Education, Training, and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Prefer a college degree in an associated field and two (2) years of experience in crime scene processing and analysis of evidence. Requires an extensive security background check.
Skill in oral and written communication. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
Required Certificates/Licenses: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must possess or obtain within three (3) years P.O.S.T. Crime Scene Technician Certification. Must possess or obtain with five (5) years International Association for Identification Crime Scene Investigator Certification.
