Position Summary
The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents in accordance with dietary guidelines, physician orders, and established menus. This role ensures safe food handling, sanitation, and quality standards are consistently maintained while creating a positive dining experience for residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation & Service
Prepare and cook meals, snacks, and special diets according to menu plans, resident needs, and dietary restrictions.
Ensure meals are served on time and in appropriate portions, maintaining both taste and presentation.
Adjust recipes and serving sizes based on census changes (up to 51 residents).
Food Safety & Sanitation
Follow proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures to comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, equipment, and food storage areas.
Monitor food and supply inventories; report shortages or order needs in a timely manner.
Resident-Centered Care
Accommodate individual dietary needs and preferences as directed by dietary staff or healthcare providers.
Promote a welcoming dining atmosphere that enhances resident satisfaction and comfort.
Communicate effectively with residents and staff to ensure dietary needs are met.
Teamwork & Compliance
Collaborate with dietary aides and other staff to provide efficient meal service.
Adhere to facility policies, infection control practices, and health department regulations.
Participate in staff training, safety drills, and ongoing quality improvement efforts.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Must at least 18 years of age
Previous cooking experience in healthcare, long-term care, or institutional setting (preferred).
Knowledge of special diets (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, texture-modified).
Ability to follow recipes, portion guidelines, and dietary orders.
Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
Must be able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a fast-paced environment.
Food handler’s certification or ServSafe (preferred).

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
