Position Summary:
The Activities Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of recreational, social, and therapeutic activities designed to meet the physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs of residents. This position promotes resident engagement, socialization, and overall quality of life within the personal care home.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Activities Director in developing and carrying out a monthly activities calendar tailored to resident interests and abilities.
- Lead group and individual activities such as arts and crafts, games, music, exercise, social events, and outings.
- Encourage resident participation while adapting activities for those with physical or cognitive limitations.
- Provide one-on-one visits for residents unable to attend group programs.
- Escort and assist residents to and from activity areas.
- Record attendance and participation in activities for resident care documentation.
- Assist with planning and decorating for special events, holidays, and family engagement activities.
- Maintain activity supplies, equipment, and program areas in a clean, organized manner.
- Support residents in maintaining independence, dignity, and a sense of purpose through meaningful engagement.
- Collaborate with nursing, dietary, and other departments to coordinate resident-centered care.
- Follow all safety, infection control, and facility policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working with seniors in a long-term care or personal care setting preferred.
- Creativity, patience, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience in group or residential settings (preferred but not required).
- Ability to motivate and encourage residents with varying levels of ability.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of Personal Care Regulations or willingness to learn.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and assisting residents as needed.
