Job Title: Pipe Foreman (GPS-Savvy / Equipment Operator)
Job Summary
The Pipe Foreman is responsible for leading and supervising pipe installation crews on construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to plans and specifications. This role requires strong leadership skills, hands-on equipment operation, and proficiency with GPS and machine control systems to support accurate layout, grading, and pipe installation.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, supervise, and motivate pipe crews in daily construction activities
- Assign tasks, manage workflow, and ensure productivity goals are met
- Train crew members on proper installation methods, safety procedures, and equipment use
- Enforce company safety policies and jobsite safety standards
Pipe Installation & Construction
- Oversee and perform installation of storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main, and related structures
- Read and interpret construction drawings, grades, and specifications
- Ensure pipe alignment, slope, and elevation meet project requirements
- Coordinate with grade checkers, inspectors, and project management
GPS & Technology
- Operate and utilize GPS equipment for layout, grade checking, and pipe installation
- Work with machine control systems for excavators, dozers, or other heavy equipment
- Verify grades and elevations using GPS and traditional surveying methods
- Assist with troubleshooting GPS or layout issues in the field
Equipment Operation
- Safely operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, dozers, or backhoes
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks
- Support efficient trenching, bedding, and backfilling operations
Planning & Coordination
- Plan daily work activities and coordinate manpower, materials, and equipment
- Communicate effectively with superintendents, project managers, and other trades
- Ensure work is completed on schedule and within quality standards
Qualifications
- Experience in underground utility or pipe installation
- Proven experience as a Pipe Foreman or Lead Operator
- Strong knowledge of storm, sanitary, and water systems
- Proficiency with GPS layout and machine control systems
- Skilled heavy equipment operator
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction plans
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license; CDL a plus but not required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor as needed
- Ability to stand, walk, and operate equipment for extended periods
Preferred Certifications
- Trenching and Excavation Competent Person
Pay: $1,200.00 - $1,600.00 per week
