Position Overview:
Gloucester High School’s Dean of Students and Student Operations plays a vital role in fostering a positive
and supportive learning environment for students in grades 9 and 10. Reporting to the Principal, the Dean
of Students will be instrumental in the day-to-day operations of the high school, focusing on student life,
behavior support, and the cultivation of a thriving school culture. This position requires a strong leader
with exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as a commitment to the
intellectual and social development of high school students. The Dean of Students will also play a critical
role in building management, operations, and facilities. The Dean will also supervise and evaluate
teaching staff and provide crucial support to the Principal in the overall leadership of the student body.
Key Responsibilities:
● Student Support and School Operations:
○ Serve as a primary point of contact and advocate for students in grades 9 and 10, addressing their
academic, social, and emotional needs.
○ Oversee and facilitate the successful transition of grade 8 students to GHS
○ Manage daily student operations, including but not limited to duty assignments, hall monitoring,
and ensuring the smooth flow of all student activities for all grades.
○ Oversee the planning and execution of student events, such as assemblies, dances, clubs, and other
extracurricular activities, ensuring they are engaging, safe, and aligned with school values.
○ Have responsibility for managing capital projects and larger maintenance functions including
interfacing with head custodian on a regular basis.
○ Coordinate and schedule school resources to effectively meet student needs.
○ Play a primary role in development of the master schedule in collaboration with the Director of
Guidance
○ Maintain accurate and confidential student records related to attendance, discipline, and other
relevant information.
● Behavioral Support and Culture Building:
○ Collaborate proactively with teachers, counselors, and parents to develop and implement
strategies that support positive student behavior and address disciplinary issues fairly and
consistently in accordance with school policy.
○ Work with individual students and groups to provide guidance, support, and intervention
strategies to promote responsible decision-making and conflict resolution skills.
○ Foster a school culture that is inclusive, respectful, and promotes a sense of belonging for all
students.
○ Participate in and contribute to school-wide initiatives focused on social-emotional learning and
character development.
● Staff Supervision and Evaluation:
○ Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assigned teaching staff, providing constructive feedback and
support for their professional growth.
○ Conduct regular observations of classroom instruction and provide meaningful feedback to
enhance teaching practices.
● Leadership and Collaboration:
○ Serve as a member of the school's leadership team, contributing to the development and
implementation of school-wide policies and initiatives.
○ Collaborate effectively with other administrators, faculty, and support staff to ensure a cohesive
and integrated approach to student support.
○ Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, faculty, and the wider school
community.
○ Assist the Principal with various administrative tasks and projects related to the overall support
and well-being of the student body.
