The Fleet Technician is responsible for performing skilled and specialized automotive mechanic work in the
repair and maintenance on the school division buses, support vehicles, trucks, and other motorized equip‐
ment. This position mounts/demounts tires, ensures conformance to industry standards, examines and
repairs tires, performs preventative maintenance, and responds to emergency road calls.
Responsibilities
1.Performs major and minor repairs to all parts of a vehicle, to include school buses, cars and trucks.
2. Performs scheduled and preventative maintenance on all vehicles.
3. Performs Virginia State inspections.
4. Responds to all vehicular breakdowns.
5. Handles quality assurance rejections.
6. Makes all major and minor repairs to vehicles including tune‐ups, cooling systems, electrical systems, engine, chassis, and all safety related items.
7. Drives school buses when needed.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent, required
Knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of buses, automotive passenger
cars, trucks, construction and maintenance equipment
Understanding of and skill in the use and operation of shop tools and machinery, and of shop practices
Virginia State Inspector License, obtained within 45 days of initial employment
ASE Certification, preferred
