What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Antenna Design Systems Engineer – Satellite Communications position at Globalstar?
Globalstar pioneered personal safety by introducing its SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger in 2007. Today, leveraging its low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, Globalstar reliably connects and protects assets, transmits key operational data, and saves lives – from any location – for consumers, industrial companies and government agencies in over 120 countries. With a portfolio that includes SPOT GPS messengers, next-generation IoT products and modems, and cloud-based telematics solutions, Globalstar’s cost effective satellite-powered innovations give users visibility and intelligence for improving safety and operational efficiencies.
What you’ll be doing
As an Antenna Design Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the development, qualification, and certification of multi-band antenna systems supporting global satellite communication services. This position requires strong technical expertise in RF systems, antenna design, testing, and verification, along with the ability to work closely with external development partners and certification organizations to ensure successful deployment of high-performance antenna products.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead for the development and qualification of satellite communication antenna systems operating in C-band, L-band, and S-band frequencies.
- Review and assess antenna and RF subsystem designs provided by external vendors, ensuring compliance with system-level performance requirements.
- Develop detailed antenna verification and validation plans based on prior industry experience and best engineering practices.
- Define and execute comprehensive test scenarios covering RF performance, environmental qualification, reliability, and operational requirements.
- Analyze antenna parameters including gain, G/T, EIRP, beam patterns, polarization purity, sidelobe performance, isolation, VSWR, and cross-polarization characteristics.
- Coordinate antenna testing activities at anechoic chambers, outdoor antenna ranges, and field test facilities.
- Work closely with antenna manufacturers, RF equipment vendors, and test laboratories throughout the development lifecycle.
- Review test data, identify performance gaps, and drive corrective actions with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Support regulatory and certification activities required for worldwide deployment, including compliance with applicable international standards and regional requirements.
- Collaborate with systems, RF, payload, gateway, and network engineering teams to ensure end-to-end system performance.
- Prepare technical reports, requirements documents, verification procedures, certification packages, and engineering presentations.
