Technical Oversight & Vendor Management
This position is directly responsible for the following tracking and management functions:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or another related scientific or technical discipline.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the IT field, including demonstrated management skills.
- Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience working with and managing IBM DB2 in a Windows Server environment.
Technical Oversight & Vendor Management
- Performance Monitoring: Proactively monitor system and DB2 performance; identify performance degradation, open support tickets, and coordinate tuning efforts with vendors.
- Application & Interface Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for DB2 and system-related issues impacting the Administration Tracking System. Lead troubleshooting efforts in collaboration with helpdesk staff, client systems engineering teams, central IT, and vendors.
- Data Interface Management: Manage and monitor all data interfaces and file transfers to ensure accuracy, integrity, and reliability.
This position is directly responsible for the following tracking and management functions:
- Service Availability Management: Track DB2 system uptime against established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Change Management: Act as the environment gatekeeper; track, document, and obtain approval for all database changes in strict adherence to change control policies.
- Incident & Service Desk Tracking: Monitor and analyze helpdesk communications and incident tickets related to DB2 and the Administration Tracking System. Identify trends, conduct root cause analyses, and recommend permanent solutions.
- Backup Job Monitoring: Maintain detailed logs to verify daily backup job success and ensure compliance with data protection requirements.
- Batch Job Monitoring & Alerting: Own and manage batch job processes, including scripting to monitor execution, log outcomes, and implement automated alerting for failures.
- Procedural Integrity: Track exceptions to standard procedures, formally document approved changes, and support continuous improvement and development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- File Transfer Monitoring: Implement and manage logging and alerting for all critical file transfers to ensure successful completion and maintain an audit trail.
- Lead and coordinate annual disaster recovery tests in collaboration with central IT and external vendors to validate system recoverability.
- Actively test and validate backup and recovery strategies implemented by external vendors.
- Proactively review operating system logs and security events to identify and remediate issues before escalation.
- Analyze external audit findings and lead remediation efforts in coordination with internal teams and external vendors
- Track system resource utilization and capacity trends to forecast future needs, plan upgrades, and prevent performance bottlenecks.
- Maintain accurate documentation of database architecture and system interfaces.
- Coordinate with Government IT staff and vendors to ensure system architecture diagrams are kept current.
- Experience with SAP or WebLogic administration and patching.
- Windows administration and general automation experience are highly desirable.
