Job Summary: This is a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Wet) position providing part-time telework with work location in Houston, TX or Chandler, AZ (locals only). The role receives administrative oversight from the Mechanical Chief Engineer within the global business unit and operational supervision from the Engineering Group Supervisor. The position involves directing assigned Junior Engineers, Technical Specialists, and Designers on projects while communicating with clients to discuss portions of the mechanical engineering scope, progress updates, coordination, and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage mechanical design and engineering activities for projects of medium to large scale
- Manage complex interactions among multiple entities or client-mandated collaborations with other contractors as required
- Apply in-depth knowledge of equipment packages such as chilled water systems comprising chillers with VFD, chilled water pumps, and chilled water expansion tanks; water treatment packages; condenser/cooling tower systems comprising condenser water pumps, sand filter skids and filter pumps; air cooled heat exchangers; heating water systems comprising hot water boiler and pumps; and other types of skid mounted pump and tank packages
- Apply experience on liquid cooling systems on datacenter projects
- Apply experience on dry systems (HVAC, cleanrooms, etc.) on semiconductor and/or datacenter projects
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel codes, Section IV - Rules for Construction of Heating Boilers, Section VIII - Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels, ASME B31.3 Process Piping, API 617 Process Centrifugal Compressors, API 610 Centrifugal Pumps, API 660 Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers, API 661 Air Cooled Heat Exchangers, API 650 Storage Tanks, AWWA Water Tanks, and NFPA
- Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of administrative practices
- Support inputs to the engineering components of mechanical estimates including quantities, job hours, and budgets for both proposals and execution phases
- Perform and manage work in accordance with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design guides, and Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
- Support mechanical engineering schedule in collaboration with all engineering disciplines
- Collaborate actively with Procurement, Construction, Startup, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), and Project Controls to align assigned mechanical engineering tasks
- Prepare and approve bid analyses and recommendations for the procurement of assigned mechanical equipment, materials, and services
- Address and resolve mechanical engineering-related field or jobsite issues
- Conduct site visits as necessary to facilitate the exchange of information
- Support technical risk assessments and safety protocols, ensuring mechanical engineering procedures follow the project's quality assurance plan and procedures
- Effectively convey complex technical matters and offer suitable recommendations to clients, project, and functional management
Education Requirements:
- A recognized degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university
- Professional license in a recognized licensing board (or international equivalent) is preferred
Required Experience:
- 15 years of progressive work experience, including supervision, preferably in project and staff design engineering but may include other relevant types of engineering including startup, field engineering, or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants, or engineering/construction firms
- Technical knowledge of related mechanical engineering systems, engineering calculations using standard software, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers
- Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction
- Knowledgeable in industry and regulatory codes and standards, as well as facilitating coordination for necessary approvals
Nice-to-Have Experience:
- Experience with modular design projects
- Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, AI Data Center, Life Sciences / Pharma, or EV Batteries
