Job Summary
The Financial Reporting Manager manages the financial reporting team within the Corporate Accounting/Finance department. This team is responsible for the accounting of marketing and admin expenses, interfaces between the General Ledger (GL) and Accounts Payable (AP) subledger, corporate investments, intercompany eliminations, corporate cost allocations, and other areas. The Financial Reporting Manager is also responsible for the preparation of the monthly financial statements and performing an analysis over financial results. This position is responsible for the review of journal entries, reconciliations, overhead analyses, and AP corrections prepared by the financial reporting accountants and ensuring the timely close of our monthly GL module and accurate financial reporting. This position also reviews financial statements and evaluates disclosure requirements for the financials. This position reviews audit related deliverables and ensures that the financial reporting team is meeting audit related deadlines. The Financial Reporting Manager resolves journal entry issues and develops and coordinates process improvements and process efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Review of business transactions to ensure activity is appropriately reflected in the general ledger.
- Research, develop, and implement accounting procedures and processes in response to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) requirements.
- Advise other employees on GAAP requirements and provide guidance where needed.
- Prepare and present analytical evaluation over account fluctuations on a monthly and annual basis.
- Evaluates new disclosure requirements for annual financial reports.
- Reviews journal entries, reconciliations, overhead analyses, and AP corrections prepared by the financial reporting team.
- Ensures that deliverables are provided accurately and timely to auditors for year-end financial statement audit.
- Manages financial reporting team's involvement in system testing efforts for regular system patches and upgrades.
- Supervises staff, assuring adequate coverage for critical tasks; provides training over processes and process changes; coaches and counsels staff to maximize performance and improve services; completes and delivers annual performance reviews for staff, responsible for recruitment, interviewing and hiring staff.
- Responds to questions from accountants and resolves discrepancies.
- Serve as the Technical advisor, providing senior level input, evaluation and guidance on issues.
- Responsible for ad hoc reporting for Accounting or Division Executive Management.
- Interpret and establish policies, procedures, and strategic goals of the organization.
- Support and assist in the development of a Department business plan.
- Determine departmental objectives and requirements, organize projects and develop standards and guidelines.
- Attend project meetings when requested by division.
- Develop and implement department tools and work flows to increase efficiency of designs, specification development, and project execution.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Required Skills
- Must have experience researching complex accounting issues.
- Experience either in auditing or serving as a key audit contact.
- Ability to balance and prioritize multiple day-to-day and ongoing projects simultaneously.
- Expert in Excel.
- Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change. Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
- Must be proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Skills
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Required Experience
- 8 years of accounting experience with significant experience and technical skills in financial reporting required.
