Position Overview
GSE is seeking a Mid-Level Controls Technician to support Utility Monitoring and Control System (UMCS) operations at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. This role supports a large-scale installation consisting of approximately 400 facilities totaling over 10 million square feet.
The position focuses on improving system performance, energy efficiency, and operational resiliency through technical expertise in building automation systems (BAS), energy monitoring, and controls optimization. The role also supports ongoing cybersecurity compliance and system integrity efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Support operation and maintenance of the Fort Campbell UMCS, ensuring system reliability and performance
- Provide technical expertise in Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Facility Related Control Systems (FRCS)
- Monitor system performance and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance operational effectiveness
- Perform system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and coordination with DPW craft personnel for HVAC-related issues
- Support facility auditing, retro-commissioning, and recommissioning activities in alignment with federal energy requirements
- Maintain accurate inventory of connected facilities and proactively monitor system performance
- Analyze energy consumption data using metering systems, spreadsheets, and utility databases
- Recommend and support implementation of corrective actions and energy-saving initiatives
- Assist in maintaining cybersecurity compliance, including support of RMF Authority to Operate (ATO) requirements
- Coordinate with installation energy managers and Contracting Officer Representatives (COR)
- Participate in energy-related training, workshops, and continuous improvement initiatives

- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project)
- Ability to work in both office and field environments, including mechanical spaces and outdoor conditions
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and use tools and testing equipment as needed
Required Qualifications – Facility Auditing Track
Candidates must meet one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred) with 3 years of facility auditing experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Business, or related field with 5 years of experience
- Associate degree with 8 years of relevant experience
- High school diploma with 10 years of relevant experience
Required Qualifications – Operational/BAS Support Track
- Minimum 5 years of experience installing, operating, maintaining, and programming Niagara Tridium-based systems
- Niagara 4 Technical Certification required
- Experience with at least one of the following systems: Distech, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Siemens, or Trane
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and control sequences
- Familiarity with Ethernet networks and cybersecurity requirements
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal or military installations
- Energy management or commissioning experience
- Electrical or HVAC technical background
Clearance Requirement
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD-issued security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
