The Role Summary

The Municipal Project Manager leads multidisciplinary teams in the planning, design, and delivery of complex municipal infrastructure and site development projects. This is a high-visibility leadership role requiring technical civil engineering mastery, strategic client relationship management, and a commitment to mentoring the next generation of professional engineers within a premier, independent legacy firm.

The Destination: The Last Great Independent Powerhouse

While the industry collapses into rigid national conglomerates where you are just a number in a spreadsheet, Our Client remains the fierce, independent authority on Arizona’s infrastructure. With a multi-decade legacy as the "Arizona-first" destination for the state’s most critical projects, this is a high-gravity center for agile decision-making and principal-led expertise. If you are tired of the bureaucratic friction of a global firm, this is your escape.

The Cultural Blueprint: Autonomy Over Quotas

Recognized as a "Best Place to Work" for several consecutive years, Our Client has deleted the "production unit" mentality. We are seeking a leader who understands that infrastructure is the foundation of a community’s future. This environment is built for the technical expert who craves high-visibility project ownership and the freedom to lead multidisciplinary teams without being tethered to a rigid desk.

The Mission: Command the Pulse of the Metro

  • The Master Architect: Direct the high-level design and delivery of vital municipal systems: potable water transmission, sanitary sewer collection, stormwater facilities, roadway improvements, site development, and parks/recreation infrastructure.
  • Strategic Technical Stewardship: Lead the preparation of Engineering Basis of Design reports, feasibility studies, and final construction documents that serve as the region’s blueprint.
  • The Principal Voice: Act as the primary technical authority for municipal clients—developing scopes, negotiating high-value contracts, and ensuring the "Create, Connect, Protect" mission is met.
  • Clinical Precision: Master the project "pulse" by managing budgets, schedules, and work plans with the accuracy required for on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • The Mentorship Mandate: Serve as a technical North Star for junior engineers, EITs, and CAD designers, architecting their professional trajectories while ensuring rigorous QA/QC.
  • Growth Architecture: Partner in business development and high-impact proposal presentations to expand the firm’s municipal footprint.

The Professional Profile: Technical Mastery & Strategic Leadership

  • The Foundation: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a current Arizona PE (or the trajectory to obtain one within 6 months).
  • Proven Command: 8 years of progressive civil engineering experience, including at least 3 consecutive years of project management specifically within the municipal sector.
  • The Toolset: Expert-level fluency in AutoCAD Civil3D and the modeling suite (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, WaterCAD, SewerCAD, and StormCAD).
  • Regulatory Authority: A deep, intuitive understanding of Arizona municipal codes, MAG standards, and permitting compliance.

The Dividend: Your Total Rewards Package

  • Financial Yield: Competitive base salary ($165,000 – $175,000) plus performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Modern Autonomy: Flexible/Hybrid schedules that respect professional life-balance.
  • Retirement Equity: 401(k) plan with aggressive employer matching.
  • Comprehensive Protection: Health, Dental, and Vision coverage Employer-paid LTD/STD/Life Insurance.
  • Wellness & Support: Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and professional development/mentorship support.
  • The Balance: Generous PTO and Employee Appreciation/recognition programs.

Own your market, command your projects, and architect a legacy that lasts.
