Responsibilities
- Offer empathetic peer support to individuals experiencing mental health or substance use challenges, utilizing motivational interviewing techniques to encourage recovery and self-advocacy
- Assist clients in developing personalized recovery plans, setting achievable goals, and identifying community resources
- Provide crisis intervention and crisis management during emergency situations, ensuring safety and stabilization for clients
- Document interactions accurately within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations
- Mentor peers by sharing lived experiences to foster hope, resilience, and empowerment
- Collaborate with behavioral health professionals to coordinate care and support comprehensive treatment plans
- Educate clients on behavioral health topics, addiction counseling strategies, and coping skills to promote ongoing recovery
Skills
- MUST BE CERTIFIED PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST
- Strong understanding of crisis intervention and crisis management techniques
- Deep knowledge of behavioral health principles and mental health counseling approaches
- Proven ability to mentor others with empathy, patience, and active listening skills
- Experience in addiction counseling and supporting recovery efforts
- Familiarity with social work practices and community resource navigation
