What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Community Schools Elementary/Middle position at Global Kids?
Summary/Purpose of the Position
The Community Schools strategy is a Global Kids (GK) organizational priority. Reporting to the Sr. Director for School-Based Programs, The Director of Community Schools Elementary provides vision, direction, and leadership for Global Kids burgeoning elementary community school programs. The Director will lead and manage the operation at up to five community schools servicing youth in grades 3K through eighth grade; ensuring program effectiveness, efficiency, and innovation. This includes the consistent supervision and training of staff; the use of internal data and third-party research; as well as an ongoing assessment of the departments strengths and challenges to make strategic decisions.
Responsibilities include:
Leadership:
Participate in the GK management team, including providing input on programs, funding, staffing, organizational issues, and special initiatives and projects
Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with school leadership at each site
Help school-based staff broker partnerships in support of school goals and needs
Develop annual goals for each school and ensure alignment with GKs organizational goals, and measured by outcomes
Coordinate GK colleagues who are working in schools to ensure seamless coordination of programs and services
Supervision and Management:
Provide overall support, management, and supervision of Community Schools Site Directors, (CSDs):
Onboard new directors
Individual annual goal-setting meetings
Conduct regular supervision with CSDs to oversee their work and their supervision of program staff
Facilitate regular CSD team meetings
Visit sites to conduct informal and formal observations, provide immediate feedback, and offer support and coaching for areas of improvement
Conduct annual performance reviews
Ensure CSDs are working collaboratively with school administrators and school stakeholders to advance school goals and develop and execute quality programs and services.
Hold primary responsibility for contract deliverables, compliance, and quality assurance, ensuring CSDs are aware of changes and new developments to contractual and programmatic obligations
Track and report outcomes
Oversee program budgets and support CSDs in budget development and spending guidelines
Coordinate CSDs as a collaborative team that shares challenges, best practices, and resources
Facilitate both internal and external professional development opportunities for staff
Program Development:
Develop, supervise, and support high-quality programs in community school sites
Ensure that programs and services are aligned with GKs overall community school strategy and individual schools goals, GK outcomes, and funder expectations
Coach school-based teams to work with school partners on the evolving needs of the school community through regular check-ins and asset/needs assessments
Outcomes & Evaluation
Ensure accurate collection of data on desired outcomes
Monitor and report on the impact and quality of programming
Monitor contract data collection, maintenance, and reporting
Ensure each community school site conducts annual assets and needs assessments with stakeholders in order to determine current and future programming
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must have a Baccalaureate degree. A masters degree is preferred (e.g., Education, Social Work, etc.), and five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
Experience leading and/or working in Elementary Schools
Knowledge of DOH regulations and be able to license a SAC Permit with 18 Credits in Education or a SAC Professional Credential.
Ability to effectively supervise personnel and manage staff across multiple sites
Experience managing multiple contracts with demanding performance measures and outcomes
Experience with or strong knowledge of the Community Schools approach
Strong understanding of a wide array of NYC social service resources
Excellent facilitation, consensus-building and interpersonal skills
Initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to juggle multiple tasks independently
Strong communication, writing, organizational, and technology skills
Knowledge of designing curriculum and using interactive experiential learning strategies and youth development/leadership strategies in culturally diverse settings with young people preferred
It is essential that the successful candidate have a very strong background in youth development and management of youth development professionals.
The ideal candidate must be committed to outcomes-driven performance and understand designing programs toward that end.
Salary/Benefits:
This full-time, exempt position has an annual salary range of 85K to $100K. GK also offers affordable medical benefits (with plans as low as $1/month), dental and life insurance, paid holidays, and 12 vacation days (year 1), increasing thereafter based on years of employment, three personal days, and eight sick days. Additionally, the GK offices are closed between Christmas
and New Year's Day. GK staff can also access retail discounts and other benefits through our Professional Employer Organization (PEO).
