The Natural Gas Distribution Laborer/Fusion Laborer supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of gas distribution systems by performing manual labor tasks on construction sites. This includes site preparation, excavation, pipe handling, fusion, and restoration while ensuring safety and quality standards are met on all projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the installation of gas mains and service lines, including digging and excavating.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and small equipment to perform site preparation and restoration.
- Load, unload, and handle materials, tools, and equipment safely.
- Maintain a clean and organized worksite, including traffic and pedestrian safety control.
- Support bore machine operations, pipe fusing, and tie-ins as directed by the crew leader.
- Assist with locating and protecting existing underground utilities during excavation.
- Follow company safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform minor maintenance and daily inspections on tools and equipment.
- Participate in tailgate meetings and job site safety assessments.
- Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in natural gas distribution work (preferred but not required).
- Fusion experience preferred.
- Ability to operate hand tools and small power equipment safely.
- Willingness to learn gas utility construction practices and safety standards.
- Ability to read and follow basic instructions and safety guidelines.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to pass operator qualification (OQ) testing and maintain certifications as required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs., kneel, bend, dig, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.

- Outdoor work on active construction sites in various weather conditions.
- Frequent physical labor and use of construction equipment.
- May include overtime, weekend, and emergency work as needed.
