CNC Vertical Milling Specialist (3–5 Axis)

What this role is about
You’ll machine precision components on vertical mills to exacting customer specifications, taking projects from setup through production with minimal oversight. You’ll select tooling, update fixturing, pull and adjust CNC programs, and keep processes running efficiently and safely.
A day in your week
- Start with direction from the Production Supervisor and plan work using the Shop Floor Control System.
- Set up and operate CNC vertical machining centers; perform light setups and changeovers as needed.
- Install and verify tooling, check rotary/indexing capability for 3–5 axis milling, and validate feeds and speeds for efficiency.
- Optimize machining processes; save updated programs, documents, and photos for future runs.
- Clock in/out operations by work-order sequence; maintain accurate production records.
- Inspect parts to blueprint using proper gauges; apply GD&T; deburr in-process work.
- Troubleshoot issues collaboratively; perform minor preventative maintenance; maintain a clean and safe area.
- Train operators before they begin production; coach new hires and apprentices.
- Partner across departments, contribute to the departmental strategic plan, and deliver on goals.
- Follow company procedures and best machining practices; uphold ISO9001:2008 and ISO13485:2003 compliance, OSHA and safety requirements, and PPE practices.
What you bring
- 3–5 years of machining experience.
- Vocational training or a four-year formal apprenticeship preferred.
- Strong print reading with GD&T; solid shop math; knowledge of accepted inspection practices.
- Hands-on CNC programming understanding with G & M code; working knowledge of computers and G-Code practices.
- Experience with 3- and 4-axis machining; basic to intermediate tool probe skills.
- Ability to follow verbal/written instructions and work from hand sketches.
- Effective communication skills; basic English proficiency.
- Proven teamwork, reliability, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
