Job Summary
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support alternate part qualification, electrical testing, and implementation of engineering changes for consumer products. The role involves identifying substitute components, developing qualification plans, performing electrical testing, communicating results, and supporting manufacturing implementation while working closely with engineering, quality, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify suitable alternate components based on existing part specifications and circuit application.
- Evaluate whether PCB changes are required to support alternate components.
- Obtain quotations for alternate parts from appropriate suppliers.
- Consult with engineering to develop qualification test plans and propose required testing to the quality team.
- Perform agreed-upon electrical tests and coordinate testing activities with technicians and laboratory personnel as needed.
- Follow Lutron safety protocols while conducting electrical testing.
- Review test results with engineering and quality teams and recommend next steps.
- Propose cutover plans, including timelines for alpha, beta, or gamma production bursts.
- Collaborate with operations to implement final product Bill of Materials (BOM) changes.
- Ensure manufacturing plants are informed of engineering changes.
- Collect and communicate feedback from manufacturing plants following implementation.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in new product design or alternate part qualification.
Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with electrical measurement equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and loads.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and understand basic circuit operation.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with higher voltage circuits (120–277V) used to control lighting loads.
- General understanding of Altium for schematic and PCB design.
- Basic programming skills in C#, Visual Basic, or Python.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment with an understanding of the impact of engineering changes on consumer products.
