What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports Card Grader & Authenticator position at Global Authentication Services (GAS Grading)?
About Us
Global Authentication Services, commonly known as GAS Grading, is a fast-growing startup dedicated to providing accurate, secure, and transparent sports card grading and authentication services. We focus on modern sports cards (1990–present) with clear pricing, fast turnaround times, and high standards for encapsulation. Our mission is to deliver consistent, trustworthy grades that collectors and dealers can rely on while building a modern, efficient operation in a dynamic industry. As we scale rapidly, we're looking for passionate experts to help maintain and elevate our quality standards.
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Sports Card Grader to join our growing team. In this role, you will authenticate and grade sports trading cards using established industry standards similar to those at PSA. You’ll evaluate card condition with precision, contribute to consistent grading practices, and help drive the quality that sets GAS Grading apart. This is a great opportunity for someone with professional grading experience (or equivalent dealer/collector expertise) who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and wants to grow with an innovative company.
Key Responsibilities
- Authenticate sports trading cards and evaluate their condition based on centering, corners, edges, surface quality, print defects, and overall eye appeal.
- Assign accurate grades on our proprietary scale (e.g., Gem Mint 10, Mint 9.5, Mint 9, with lower cards receiving a review fee rather than full encapsulation).
- Use magnification tools, lighting, and other grading equipment to inspect cards thoroughly and efficiently.
- Document grading decisions, notes, and any relevant details in our system.
- Participate in quality control processes, including second reviews or verifications to ensure consistency across the team.
- Share expertise to help train and improve the skills of the broader grading team.
- Maintain high productivity while upholding accuracy and attention to detail in a high-volume environment.
- Stay current with market trends, card variations, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Experience: 1–3 years of direct sports card grading experience (professional grader role preferred, similar to PSA) or equivalent hands-on expertise as a dealer, collector, or in a related role with extensive grading/submission history.
- Deep knowledge of sports cards across major sports (baseball, basketball, football, etc.), including vintage and modern issues.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent visual acuity, and the ability to focus for extended periods.
- Familiarity with industry grading standards (centering measurements, corner/edge evaluation, surface issues, alterations, etc.).
- Reliable, organized, and able to work effectively in a team-oriented setting.
- Positive attitude and openness to training/refining skills to align with GAS Grading protocols.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant certifications or industry references a plus.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation based on experience.
- Opportunity to grow with a fast-moving startup in the exciting sports card industry.
- Hands-on role shaping grading standards and processes.
- Collaborative, dynamic work environment.
