Role Description This is a part- to full-time, Business Development Manager role based in San Diego, CA. The Business Development Manager will identify and pursue new project opportunities in affordable housing, including tracking leads, qualifying prospects, and managing a robust pipeline across the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and San Diego markets. Daily activities include building and maintaining relationships with developers, public agencies, community partners, and consultants; attending industry events and networking functions; and representing the firm in a professional, mission-aligned manner. The role involves coordinating and preparing proposals, RFQ/RFP responses, and interview materials in collaboration with leadership and design teams. The Business Development Manager will also support marketing initiatives, maintain CRM and contact databases, prepare presentations and case studies, and provide regular reporting on business development performance and market trends.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in business development, client relationship management, or sales within architecture, real estate development, construction, or related fields.
- Strong skills in lead generation, opportunity tracking, pipeline management, and closing new business.
- Ability to prepare and coordinate high-quality proposals, RFQ/RFP responses, and interview presentations.
- Effective communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage comfortably with executives, public agencies, and community partners.
- Familiarity with affordable housing, multifamily development, or public-sector work is strongly preferred.
- Experience using CRM tools, Microsoft Office (or Google Workspace), and basic marketing platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, email marketing, website content updates).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Comfort working on-site in San Diego, CA, with regular in-person collaboration and occasional local or regional travel to client sites and industry events.
