DIRECTOR OF SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT

GLENWOOD COMMUNITY SCHOOLS 
 

Position: Director of School Improvement

Qualifications:   

  • PK-12 Administrative endorsement with experience and/or knowledge in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

  • Preferred experience with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Standards-Referenced Grading (SRG)

  • Preferred district level administrative experience     

Reports To: Superintendent

Consults With:  Superintendent, Director of Student Services, Director of Technology, Principals, Teachers, Green Hills AEA personnel, and Department of Education personnel

 

School Improvement Leadership (PK-12):

Provide oversight, direction, and facilitation of:

  • Teacher Leadership and Compensation (TLC) program

    (Instructional Coaches, PLC Facilitators,, Mentor Teachers, SIT
    (Student Intervention Team) 

    Coordinators, Mentoring & Induction Coordinator)

  • Teacher Mentoring & Induction Program

  • ESSA/Differentiated Accountability goals and action planning

  • Assessment of student learning: Local and State

  • School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC)

  • Summer school programming

  • Professional development of all staff

  • Data reporting to stakeholders

  • State reporting

Curriculum Leadership (PK-12):

Provide oversight, direction, and facilitation of:

  • Subject Area Committees (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Guidance, PE/Health, CTE Strands, World Languages)

  • Ensure alignment of the district’s curriculum, instruction, and assessment long-range plan

  • Instructional Services Budget in collaboration with Superintendent and SBO

  • Grade level and content area PLC’s

 

Performance Responsibilities Related to School Improvement:

  • Facilitates District SIAC

  • Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of district curriculum and assessments.

  • Gather, vet, and collaborate to secure evidence-based, high-usability resources that support curriculum outcomes and standards across all grade levels.

  • Assists in the development and coordination of the sections of the budget that pertain to curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

  • Leads the organization and administration of state assessments, including scheduling, staff training, test security procedures, communication with state agencies, and accurate submission of required documentation and reporting.

  • Keeps current with research and best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and provides leadership in determining their appropriateness for the district’s educational program.

  • Facilitates staff development for instructional staff around the district’s strategic plan 

  • Evaluates results of district-wide assessment programs and other evaluative measures of student achievement and shares with SIAC and Administrative team.

  • Consults with instructional staff on the use of assessment data for improving classroom instruction and student achievement.

  • Facilitates Subject Area Committees (SACs) in evaluating and recommending purchase of new instructional materials, and assists in budget preparation for instructional supplies, equipment, and materials.

  • Assumes a leadership role in developing curriculum for any course newly mandated by the legislature.

  • Recommends the addition of new courses, grade placement of courses, credit allowances for courses, and graduation requirements.

  • Assists in the oversight, data review, and programming for the district Pathways and SWIVA programs

  •  Assists the superintendent and administrative team in keeping staff, parents, and the community informed about current trends, issues, and needs in education.

  • Maintains active participation with educational leaders in curriculum, instruction, and assessment at state, regional, and national levels.

  • Compiles desk audit and other state reports required by the Iowa Department of Education, connecting to curriculum, instruction, and assessment

  • Leads ESSA action planning with district and building level teams, as well as assisting with reports, data collections, and submissions involved in these processes.

  •  Assists in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training, and assigning of instructional personnel.

  • Be present in buildings and offer insights to enhance the teaching-learning situation.

  • Recommends and leads professional development on assessment of learning strategies.

  • Leads professional development around the teacher evaluation system. 

  •  Attends regular meetings of the superintendent’s staff and actively contributes to improving communication, cooperation, and planning.

  • Facilitates instructional coaching and instructional coach/administration team meetings and learning in addition to evaluating instructional coaches on a yearly basis.

  • Teacher Leadership Compensation

  •  District Strategic Plan - with Superintendent, Administrative team, School Board, and SIAC

  •  Summer School Related Outcomes: Reteaching/Reassessing and oversight

  • Teacher Quality Committee

  • Mentoring and Induction Program

  • Instructional Coaching

  • Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)

  • SWIVA

  • PATHWAYS

  • Professional Development of Certified Staff
     

Performs additional duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the superintendent.
 

Terms of Employment: Twelve-month position.  Salary to be established by the Glenwood 

Community School District.

 

Evaluation:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of 

the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
