Position Title: Assistant High School Principal/ Virtual School Principal
Department: School Administrator
Reports To: High School Principal
Compensation: Salary Commensurate with Degree and Experience
Calendar: 260 Day

SUMMARY
Provide leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of the High School in
order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board
of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law. To provide
leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development.
This position is responsible for the oversight, coordination, and continuous improvement of the district's
virtual school program. Duties include managing daily operations, ensuring compliance with state and
district requirements, supervising staff, coordinating student enrollment and support services,
monitoring academic progress and engagement, overseeing budgets and vendor partnerships, and
maintaining clear communication with families and stakeholders. The role ensures that the virtual
program operates efficiently, aligns with district goals, and provides a high-quality learning experience
for all enrolled students.

 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned. Essential duties must be performed on site.
Professional Capacity
? Distributes and develops staff leadership, builds, coaches, monitors, and supports
teacher teams that advance teaching and learning.
? Assists in hiring, support, and retention of effective staff while developing,
monitoring, and/or exiting low performers.
Systems Management
? Assists in the preparation of the building master teacher schedule by making specific
assignments, recommending program changes and maintaining acceptable teacher/pupil ratios.
? Builds and maintains a safe and orderly school environment that meets the academic,
social, emotional and physical needs of each student.
? Provides coherent support services and accommodations to meet the needs of each student
including IEP, Gifted, and 504 compliance.
? Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and
improvement of educational programs, including curricular and extracurricular activities.
? Maintains proper supervision of student activities, field trips, and other school
sponsored events.
? Supervises the daily care and maintenance of the school building and provides input

or long range planning for its periodic maintenance.
? Ensures the building is safe for occupancy and assists in regular safety drills
for all personnel.


Instructional Leadership
? Conducts high quality classroom observations, identifies effective teaching practices,
and understands pedagogy that results in improved student learning in accordance with
the district strategic plan.
? Aligns instructional practices consistent with district focus and building needs.
? Develops staff members' professional knowledge, skills and practice through
differentiated opportunities for learning and growth.
? Assists teachers in selecting yearly professional goals for the improvement of
instruction.


Focus on Achievement
? Uses assessment data appropriately to monitor student progress and improve
instruction.
? Ensures district curriculum, instructional models, assessments, and grading
practices are implemented with fidelity.
? Maintains high expectations for student learning and behavior in accordance with the
school handbooks, policies, and procedures.
? Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to
modify instructional methods to fit students' needs, including students with special
needs.
? Assists the principal in the development of yearly school improvement goals through
the involvement of teachers, classified staff, students and parents.
? Assists the principal in the establishment of educational priorities and action plans for
the school year.
? Assists principal with involving staff in the evaluation of programs and the
planning of new programs.

instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.
? Is responsible for building level communications and establishes open and effective
two-way communication with various public and school communities and with the
administration.


Ethics and Professionalism
? Acts ethically and professionally in personal conduct, relationships with others,
decision-making, stewardship of the schools' resources and all aspects of leadership.
? Places children at the center of education and accepts responsibility for each student's
academic success and well being.
? Provides moral direction for the school and promotes ethical and professional behavior
among faculty and staff.
? Interprets district Board policies, educational programs and administrative practices to
the public, parents, teachers and students.
? Ensures proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of
collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.
? Ensures the adequate supervision and administration of the health, conduct and
attendance of students under his/her jurisdiction within the framework of the U.S.
Constitution, applicable State laws and Board of Education policy.
? Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the
educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by
conducting research.
? Adheres to all negotiated contract provisions.
? Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
Responsible for one or more of the following district program's administration, planning, and
implementation. (Title I, Preschool, Gifted and Talented Education, Career Technical Education,
Homeless, Equity, Title IX, Professional Development, District Safety Plan, School Improvement).


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
? Supervises and evaluates licensed and non-licensed staff members as assigned by
the principal.
? Supervision of school related activities, athletics, and fine arts events on a rotational basis.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
? Required: Master's Degree in Education Administration from an accredited college or
university.
? Required: Five years of successful teaching/administrative experience.
? Preferred: Previous experience as an administrator.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
? Required: Valid Iowa Administrator License with Evaluator Approval

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts (probability, statistical inference, geometry, trigonometry,
fractions, percentages, ratios, etc). Experience with finance developing and implementing budgets.


REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only
limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,
diagram, or schedule form.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; establish and
maintain effective relationships with staff, students and the public and work effectively with others in a
group and team environment. Must be skilled in oral and written communication including advanced
computer application skills; child growth and development strategies and how it affects learning;
teaching and learning processes.

move up to 50 pounds 0 - 12 feet and up to 20 feet such as boxes of books. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision. The employee regularly interacts with
staff and the public in addition to meeting
multiple demands and deadlines from several people. The employee must be able to move from place
to place, building to building and travel to attend meetings.
