Description

The Professional Expert – Entertainment Technology (ENTECH) Program Development is a project-based subject-matter expert assignment responsible for providing highly specialized industry knowledge to support the planning, development, and launch of Glendale Community College’s Entertainment Technology program.

This role is engaged specifically to contribute expert-level technical, operational, and workforce insight drawn from professional experience in live entertainment and large-scale event production environments. The Professional Expert will advise on curriculum design, facilities and equipment planning, industry and labor alignment, and workforce readiness to ensure the ENTECH program reflects current professional standards, safety requirements, and employment practices within the entertainment technology industry.

The ENTECH program prepares students for careers in live performance, event production, and large-scale entertainment settings, including concerts, theatrical productions, festivals, theme parks, weddings, award shows, and nationally televised live events such as the Academy Awards.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Instructional Services and the Dean of Instruction and Workforce Development and/or designee, the Professional Expert works collaboratively with faculty, administrators, industry partners, and labor organizations to deliver defined project outcomes aligned with institutional and workforce development goals.

Scope Of Work / Project-Based Duties

The Professional Expert shall be engaged to complete specific program development projects and deliverables, which will include some or all of the following:

Program and Curriculum Development 

  • Provide expert consultation in the design and development of ENTECH curriculum aligned with current industry practices in live sound, lighting, staging, rigging, video, and event production.
  • Advise on the development of certificates, degrees, and short-term workforce credentials aligned with regional employment demand.
  • Provide recommendations on course sequencing, instructional hours, lab requirements, and program structure to support student employability.
  • Ensure curriculum integrates industry safety standards and professional protocols, including OSHA requirements and entertainment-industry best practices.

Equipment, Facilities, and Infrastructure Planning

  • Develop expert recommendations for industry-standard equipment lists, including sound, lighting, staging, rigging, power distribution, and video systems.
  • Advise on instructional space, lab, and facility requirements necessary to support hands-on technical training.
  • Provide guidance on procurement priorities, phased purchasing strategies, and lifecycle planning for entertainment technology equipment.
  • Support alignment of instructional facilities with real-world production environments.

Industry and Labor Alignment

  • Serve as a technical advisor and liaison regarding collaboration with entertainment industry labor organizations, including IATSE and related unions.
  • Provide expert guidance on union expectations, entry-level competencies, and workforce entry pathways.
  • Advise on the development of work-based learning opportunities, including internships, job shadowing, and apprenticeship-aligned experiences.
  • Assist in identifying and cultivating employer partnerships to support job placement and workforce outcomes.

Outreach, Marketing, and Program Positioning

  • Provide expert input on program messaging, branding, and positioning to accurately reflect industry expectations.
  • Support outreach to production companies, venues, and entertainment organizations to build awareness and partnerships.
  • Advise on high school and community outreach strategies to establish early enrollment pipelines.

Program Launch and Continuous Improvement

  • Provide consultation during early implementation and launch phases of the ENTECH program.
  • Assist in defining employment outcomes, placement metrics, and workforce alignment indicators.
  • Participate in planning meetings, advisory sessions, and stakeholder discussions as required.
  • Prepare written recommendations, technical summaries, or reports related to assigned project activities.

Significant professional experience (typically 5 or more years) in entertainment technology, live performance, event production, or large-scale entertainment environments.

Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of one or more technical disciplines, such as live sound, lighting, rigging, staging, video systems, or event production operations.

Current or recent experience working in professional entertainment production settings (e.g., concerts, theatrical productions, festivals, televised or live broadcast events).

Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and professional practices, including OSHA and entertainment-industry safety protocols.

Experience collaborating with entertainment industry labor organizations (e.g., IATSE or similar unions) is highly desirable.

Ability to provide independent, expert consultation and make professional recommendations based on industry experience.


Glendale Community College is currently accepting applications for qualified Professional Experts. This is a continuous recruitment for an applicant pool to fill Professional Expert assignments on an as-needed basis. Professional Experts are employed on a temporary basis for a specific project.
