What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer Coordinator position at Gleaners Community Food Bank?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure volunteer experience is organized, efficient, meaningful, and engaging for volunteers.
Review volunteer job set-up with Operations team to ensure projects ready for volunteers to start on time.
Provide frequently refreshed orientations and tours.
Ensure a safe work environment is maintained for volunteers and communicate safety requirements to volunteers, including adherence to food safety standards.
Identify, communicate and follow-up on corporate volunteer hour match grant opportunities.
- Perform key administrative tasks including but not limited to maintaining accurate and detailed records of volunteer activity, volunteer schedules and volunteer contacts; perform volunteer background checks as needed; respond to volunteer and other inquiries in a timely manner and ensure that volunteers receive a timely thank you communication.
- Ensure adequate numbers of volunteers engaged to meet operational and programmatic needs.
- Maintain systems to ensure and check volunteer work quality control.
- Recruit and train office volunteers and project lead volunteers to assist as needed.
Organize and participate in volunteer recognition activities.
Present, promote and encourage opportunities for volunteers to become donors; cultivate relationships with key volunteer contacts.
Maintain knowledge of current Gleaners’ vital statistics, programs, and events.
Learn and maintain proficiency in software programs related to the volunteer program.
Assist with supporting special events and programs housed at or affecting any facility.
Promote a positive work environment where team members feel empowered, engaged and connected to Gleaners’ mission and strategic plan.
Foster a culture of professionalism, team cohesion and accountability.
Other duties as assigned.
Technology Skills/Abilities
Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms (Teams, Zoom, etc.)
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365; specifically, employees are required to use Outlook as well as Excel, Word, Power Point and Publisher.
Knowledge of volunteer scheduling software and service insights software is helpful. Work Environment
The standard work environment is inside a distribution center where temperatures vary. This is an onsite/in-person position
