GLC On-The-Go is seeking a Vocational Rehabilitative Counselor with experience with Mental Health disorders for a full-time contract. This position is located at the NIH Clinical Center (CC), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. The NIH Clinical Center is the largest hospital in the world totally dedicated to translational clinical research. The hospital maintains a 200-bed inpatient capacity with 18 outpatient clinics (including 3 day hospitals) to support the intramural research programs of the 17 Institutes and Centers with clinical programs on the NIH Bethesda campus.
MAJOR DUTIES
Provides professional counseling services in vocational rehabilitation for patients with physical, cognitive and/or mental health diagnoses. Evaluates vocational potentials and develops plans to maintain or promote work skills and to promote recovery or adaptation for the inability to sustain paid employment.
Maintains an ongoing training-education program within the RMD to introduce new or improved prevocational or vocational programs in response to changing technology or resources.
Develops and maintains a list of vocationally related resources with the NIH, state, county and other resources within the U.S. and foreign countries covered by the NIH service area.
Monitors patient treatment records to ensure continuity of care and to ensure that treatment plans are within the quality assurance efforts of the Department. Works closely with rehabilitation medicine physicians and other allied health professionals in achieving functional goals for patients.
Analyzes and interprets evaluation results for research patients. Assesses learning needs of patients and/or families utilizing standardized tests; develops formal teaching plans and teaching tools for use with specific patient populations or protocols. Provides counseling to and education for patients and their families.
Participates in the development of innovative research, including outcome measurement development, in the field of vocational rehabilitation. Analyzes and interprets results for complex problems related to vocational rehabilitation and counseling. Disseminates research results through manuscripts, posters and podium presentations.
Evaluates and assesses the educational/vocational functioning of individuals with a variety of complex organic, medical, neurological, psychological and/or developmental disorders.
Develops and establishes a comprehensive vocational assessment program which provides efficient and comprehensive evaluation of CC patients’ vocational interests, skills and aptitudes.
Develops short and long term goals that lead to achievement of vocational direction/choices, and identifies steps needed to be taken to achieve those goals. Contributes to the rehabilitation team as a representative of work therapy and vocational rehabilitation in CC team meetings and patient care rounds by providing information on patients' treatment plan, progress and discharge plan.
Assists patients in the adjustment process to disability. Coordinates with the Occupational Therapy Section in establishing and developing appropriate work therapy placements for patients.
Develops community resources at the local, national and international level to meet vocational/avocational/educational/training needs of the patients through comprehensive post-discharge planning.
Writes thorough assessments, follow-up and periodic progress reports on all patients receiving rehabilitation counseling services. Maintains adequate records on all patients treated. Participates and serves as a representative to various RMD QA projects.
REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 2 years’ experience performing as a Vocational Rehab Counselor in a clinical setting.
Masters in Rehabilitation: Will consider VRC, CRC, LPC, LSW certifications
Experience working with Mental Health Disorders, especially Alcoholism, Bi-polar, and Depression.
Current and valid State License
Current and valid BLS certification
Must pass a federal background check
