ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

- Answers telephones promptly, and handles/screens calls courteously, professionally and appropriately, including scheduling of patient appointments as directed and taking messages. Greets patients and schedules return appointments.
- Verifies insurance coverage, conducts income determinations and assigns payment category and updates patient information. Inputs data in computer in accordance with "Patient Accounting Manual" and GLBHC billing policy. Follows Front Desk Manual for procedures.
- Prepares charts for new patients and requests charts from Medical Records Department. Retrieves and checks encounter forms for completeness.
- Prepares patients for examination by the physician, including obtaining vital signs and measurements and determining the reason(s) for the patient visit. Assists the physician in the exam room when required.
- Cleans and disinfects work area and maintains supplies and equipment on medical bus and in exam rooms.
- Records and maintains accurate clinical data and performs tracking and follow-up functions as assigned.
- Sorts and distributes clinic mail/deliveries as necessary.
- Performs phlebotomy services for the site.
- Prepares and send specimens to reference labs as appropriate.
MARGINAL JOB DUTIES
- Fills in for other staff as needed and qualified.
- Assists in the billing process as assigned.
- Assists with errands as assigned.
- Assists the Migrant Program Manager/Center Manager as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education: Completion of Medical Assisting program, with evidence of training in clinic procedures and duties.
- Licensure: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Experience: One year experience in a medical setting preferred. Medical billing experience preferred.
- Skills: Appropriate clinical skills, telephone and computer skills. Bilingual in English/Spanish with ability to write in both languages. Flexible in accepting work assignments and work hours. Ability to respond appropriately and consistently to managerial directives.
- Interpersonal skills: Able to communicate effectively with, and relate to, a diverse population in a professional and courteous manner. Flexible and able to function in a team setting. Ability to respond appropriately to all patients.
- Physical Effort: Medium.
- Hours of Work: Full-time or Part-time, as scheduled. Flexible and varies. Evening hours required in the Migrant Program.
- Travel: Travel within service area. Reimbursements provided at existing rate of the corporation.
