Junior Grower

Brief Description

Monitor and report pest pressure in the greenhouses to the grower.

Monitor for disease plants and quality standards for crop work

Monitor “specialty jobs” such as planting, pest & disease work and maintenance problems that could adversely impact production.

Irrigation of crop, monitoring and calibrating all grow scales, over drain trays, EC and pH sensors.

Monitor that the proper settings are implemented according to discussions with the grower.

Ensure that the monitoring of the drain, dripper measurements, pathway bottles, back washing of the sand filters, cleaning of the disc filters and pressure of the irrigation system is taken care off, according to specifications of the grower.

Sampling of fertilization to be done on a consistent base.

To keep track of plant growth

Monitor all irrigation of crop

To insure that CO2 is monitored for correct dosage.

Record daily irrigation, drain, EC and pH on the growers data board

Record plant measurements

Weekly operation report, given by the grower.

For this position you will need to complete modules: Introduction Horticulture, Water- Introduction , Irrigation and Fertilization, which includes successfully passing them within the first 6 months. Then will continue to complete Priva Modules as assigned every 6 months after Then will continue to complete Priva Modules as assigned every 6 months after

Education And/or Experience

• Ability of follow up, documentation of progression and results analysis.
• With guidance to pay attention to details.
• Ability to make conversions of measurement units.
• Basic knowledge of algebra (measurement conversion, precise measurement, multiplication, division of integers and fractions).
• Basic knowledge of chemistry (ability to differentiate between different substances used and accurate measurement of units)

• This position requires a 40-hour minimum work week

• Ability to work in conditions typically found in a greenhouse with high humidity and varying temperatures, with a fair amount of moisture present.
• Ability to exert up to 15-50 pounds occasionally in order to lift and move product.
• Ability to balance, reach grasp while climbing on a step stool and/ or ladder.
• Ability to crouch, grasp and lift product above shoulders in order to lift product from the floor properly.
• Ability to be on feet while performing job responsibilities.
  
  

Work Environment

• The majority of time the employee will be working in the greenhouses which have high levels of temperature and humidity.
• Will be required to work with chemicals (protective equipment will be provided).
• Work on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) will be required at the convenience of the company.
  
  

Travel

May be required to travel between the office and the farm sites on occasion.

Assist the grower in monitoring crops, irrigation and climate strategies and help out with the labor where needed. Report all irregularities to the grower
