We’re looking for a strategic, hands-on Director of HR Operations to strengthen and streamline the operational side of our People function. Reporting directly to the VP of HR, this role will ensure that our processes, systems, and compliance programs run efficiently and consistently, while supporting the broader HR strategy set by leadership.
The Director of HR Operations will directly oversee onboarding and offboarding programs, performance management processes, HR compliance, and SOP development. They’ll build scalable systems and practices that allow our HR team to operate with clarity and confidence.
This is a builder role ideal for someone who thrives on designing processes, tightening compliance, and partnering cross-functionally to deliver a smooth, equitable employee experience across our business. The responsibilities below capture the core of this role, but as Glass House Brands grows quickly, your scope may evolve to match new opportunities and business needs.
What you’ll do:
Operational Excellence & Compliance
- Develop and implement SOPs and process documentation across all HR operations functions.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws (with a strong focus on California regulations).
- Maintain audit readiness and proactively address compliance risks in partnership with VP of HR and Legal.
Employee Lifecycle Management
- Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring they reflect company culture and compliance standards.
- Support the rollout of consistent performance management practices, aligned with leadership expectations.
- Implement employee feedback loops and reporting that inform improvements to the employee experience.
Systems & Data Management
- Manage HRIS and related systems (onboarding, scheduling, performance), ensuring accuracy and data integrity.
- Partner with Payroll, Benefits, and Finance to ensure clean, consistent data flow and minimize errors.
- Provide HR metrics and dashboards to leadership, supporting the VP of HR in data-driven decision-making.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the operational liaison between HR, Payroll, Benefits, IT, Facilities, and Security.
- Collaborate with the VP of HR on pay equity reviews, budget alignment, and vendor/service provider oversight.
Team Support & Guidance
- Provide day-to-day operational guidance to HR Managers, Generalists, and Business Partners.
- Ensure operational consistency so HRBPs and HR leadership can focus on strategic priorities.
- Coach HR staff on compliance, process discipline, and documentation standards.
What we’re looking for:
- Must be 21 years of age
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or equivalent experience.
- SPHR/PHR or similar certification a plus.
- 10 years of HR experience, with at least 5 years leading HR operations/compliance.
- Strong knowledge of HR compliance, employment law, and audit requirements.
- Proven experience building SOPs, scaling processes, and managing HR systems.
- Excellent project management, data reporting, and analytical skills.
