Salary is based on experience as per the Classified Salary Schedule - Level L. Gladstone offers stipends for classified staff based on educational experience.

General Description:

 

This position is responsible for coordinating a student/family advocacy and mentoring program by collaborating with students, parents and staff to increase student academic and social achievement.

 

This position works with our district’s, state, and county programs, so that students can receive full and equitable access to public education. This includes working with students and families in advocating for students within the school system, connecting families in community resources, and collaborating with school teams/district supports to encourage student engagement.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  2. Two years of experience working with Prek-12 students in academic, vocational, or social programs is preferred.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with parents, school staff, administration staff, and public.
  4. Ability to facilitate discussion across cultures for the purpose of understanding and resolving student, family, and school issues.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of the structure, function and culture of school.
  6. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidence and understand student information privacy rights.
  7. Bilingual skills in a language common to the school district, Spanish, is strongly preferred.
  8. Sound oral and written communication skills.
  9. Ability to exercise tact, patience and courtesy when working with students and staff.
  10. Strong interpersonal/human relations skills.
  11. Knowledge of computers and educational applications.
  12. Other qualifications may be established by the District.

Essential Functions: 

  1. Identifies students in need of additional support. Collaborates with families and staff to meet student and family assessed needs.
  2. Monitors student progress and communicates with teachers, counselors and administrators.
  3. Refers students and families to appropriate community or school resources as needed.
  4. Develop and maintain trusting relationships between the district/school and parents/students.
  5. Attends meetings and training at various school and community locations, traveling within the district and larger metropolitan community using own private transportation.
  6. Establishes and maintains confidential records of interactions with students and families.
  7. Determining effectiveness of the program and making needed adjustments by collecting information, referrals, data, and records.
  8. Provides families with information related to the needs of their children and acts as a resource to parents/guardians/caregivers by providing family support activities and communicating available services to assist them in meeting short-term and long-term goals.
  9. Maintains on-going program evaluation to determine effectiveness of the program and make needed adjustments.
  10. Coordinates translation and interpreter services.
  11. Advocate for SPED, 504s, and IEPs.
  12. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Supports that are reasonably related to the position and consistent with the employee’s classification, training, and qualifications.
