RIGGING FOREMAN — DATA CENTER CONSTRUCTION

GL Skilled Staffing Services

Position Summary

GL Skilled Staffing Services is seeking a Rigging Foreman to supervise rigging crews and coordinate heavy-equipment installation on a large data center construction project. This position is responsible for crew safety, work planning, equipment readiness, productivity, and coordination of lifting and equipment-moving activities.

The Rigging Foreman oversees Lead Riggers and assigned crews, ensuring work follows approved plans, project requirements, and manufacturer handling instructions.

Reports to: Rigging Superintendent or designated General Superintendent.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise daily rigging operations, including unloading, staging, moving, and setting heavy equipment.
  • Assign Lead Riggers, rigging personnel, and qualified signal persons according to task requirements and verified capabilities.
  • Develop short-term work plans covering manpower, lifting equipment, rigging gear, deliveries, access, and installation sequence.
  • Coordinate lift-plan preparation and required reviews with designated lift directors, crane providers, engineers, and project safety personnel.
  • Confirm required approvals are complete before critical, complex, or multiple-crane lifts proceed.
  • Coordinate verification of load weights, centers of gravity, approved lifting points, and equipment-handling requirements.
  • Obtain required confirmation of ground-bearing capacity, floor-loading limits, and temporary support arrangements from responsible project personnel.
  • Coordinate crane setup areas, equipment travel paths, exclusion zones, and landing locations.
  • Confirm rigging equipment is suitable for the work, inspected, identifiable, and available when needed.
  • Conduct pre-lift briefings and verify crew responsibilities, communication methods, and stop-work procedures.
  • Coordinate deliveries and installation activities with mechanical, electrical, structural, and site logistics teams.
  • Monitor weather, access restrictions, and changing field conditions against approved plans and equipment limitations.
  • Enforce equipment-protection measures to prevent damage to sensitive components and finished surfaces.
  • Track labor hours, daily progress, equipment utilization, and delays.
  • Maintain daily reports, personnel qualification records, inspection records, and required lift documentation.
  • Coach Lead Riggers and crew members and address safety, workmanship, or performance concerns.
  • Stop work and obtain the required review when conditions or proposed methods differ from the approved plan.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of industrial or heavy-equipment rigging experience.
  • At least 5 years supervising rigging crews and coordinating equipment installation.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing crane lifts and heavy-equipment moves.
  • Strong knowledge of rigging selection, load control, equipment placement, and construction logistics.
  • Ability to interpret lift plans, equipment drawings, placement layouts, and installation schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan work, manage crews, coordinate subcontractors, and maintain field records.
  • Clear communication with superintendents, crane providers, safety personnel, and other trades.
  • Demonstrated qualification for any rigging work personally performed, subject to employer verification.
  • Documented signal-person qualification when crane signaling is assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous data center, power-generation, central utility plant, or other critical-facility construction experience.
  • Experience supervising installation of chillers, generators, transformers, and prefabricated equipment modules.
  • Recognized advanced rigging certification appropriate to the assigned work.
  • Experience coordinating critical lifts, multiple-crane lifts, and restricted-access equipment moves.
  • Experience with hydraulic jacking systems, machinery skates, and specialized equipment-moving methods.
  • Familiarity with digital drawings, scheduling tools, and field-reporting platforms.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction training.
  • English/Spanish communication skills.

Working Conditions

This is a field supervisory position requiring regular presence in active construction areas, delivery zones, crane operating areas, and equipment installation locations. Essential duties must be performed safely, with reasonable accommodation where applicable. Project-required shifts and overtime may apply.
