Job Description

EHS Specialist- Night Shift


Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

Environmental/Health/Safety Trainer
  1. Ability to conduct onboard training for all new employees.
  2. Conducts refresher training for all employees per yearly training schedule.
  3. Conducts additional clarification training for all employees as required due to incidents/violations.
  4. Assist with developing or modifying training programs to address existing and new EHS issues.
Environmental/Health/Safety Employee Outreach
  1. Promote and utilize the incident reporting program throughout facility, including being the point-source for collection and coordination of corrective actions.
  2. Attend individual department meetings as representative for EHS.
  3. Regularly surveys/monitors production floor for employee EHS concerns and addresses with supervision and management.
  4. Coordinates emergency evacuation drills (fire, adverse weather, etc.), monitors for effectiveness and recommends corrections/improvements.
  5. Provide input for weekly safety talks and bulletins for individual departmental start-up meetings.
  6. Develops and posts monthly employee EHS information throughout the facility.
  7. Develops and posts employee safety alerts as required throughout the facility.
  8. Assist with the employee safety committee, including membership, training, and monthly meetings.
  9. Assist with the employee first responder program, including membership and training.
  10. Compliance Inspection Programs
  11. Perform safety inspections for all departments and communicate the findings in a timely manner.
  12. Perform environmental inspections for stormwater and SPCC compliance and communicate the findings in a timely manner.
  13. Perform hazardous waste compliance inspections for all accumulation areas and communicate the findings in a timely manner.
  14. Perform hazardous materials inspections and communicate the findings in a timely manner.
  15. Perform fire prevention and control inspections and communicate the findings in a timely manner.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Control and Monitoring
  1. Responsible for PPE distribution and availability to all employees
  2. Responsible for proper PPE determination based on job hazard analysis.
  3. Assists with vendor management of safety shoe store and employee provision based on company policy for time and type.
  4. Oversee PPE stocking control and product evaluation including addressing any PPE quality issues.
Cost Savings Generation and Reporting
  1. Examines potential in projects for cost savings generation.
  2. Gathers data to clarify/justify cost savings reporting.
  3. Reports cost savings as monthly KPI for EHS Department
Incident Response
  1. Trained for EHS incident response, including but not limited to Bloodborne Pathogen decontamination, non-hazardous spill response, and injury triage. 
  2. Primary EHS employee relations communication source for incident information
  3. Participates in incident investigations/reviews to determine root-cause analysis.
  4. Communicates corrective actions for incidents to all departments/employees.

EHS Project Work

  1. Coordinates proper non-hazardous waste disposal methods with employees, sets up collection areas as required.
  1. Coordinates recycling programs with all employees, including but not limited to oil pads, batteries, and production waste streams.
  2. Coordinates additional project work and issues as directed under the guidance of the EHS Supervisor and the EHS Manager.
Education/Experience
  1. Associate degree or higher requested
    1. Equivalent work experience is acceptable as determined by the EHS Manager
    2. Background in science-related field, esp. EHS, preferred.
  2. Additional certifications are also preferred.
    1. ASP
    2. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
    3. OSHA Trainer certification
    4. Teaching/Supervision

Willingness to pursue continuing education is preferred, either formal or self-taught

  1. Competency in standard MSOffice applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, is required
    Work Structure
  2. Reports to EHS Supervisor.
  3. Standard hours will vary.  
  4. Work hours will vary with some OT required.
  5. Requirement to schedule time spent on all shifts and weekends to drive outreach to all employees
  6. Work organization is mainly self-determined with oversight as deemed necessary by the EHS Manager; must be a self-starter who can drive results without prompting.
