What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Technician position at GIS Surveyors?
The main duties and responsibilities of the GIS Technician are to assist in cartographical, statistical, and analytical processes using ArcGIS within a team environment under the direct supervision of the assigned Team Lead. The ideal candidate will have educational knowledge of GIS geoprocessing thru data collection interpretation and editing under standard operating procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs all Technician roles at professional levels including:
- Assist with the data gathering and compilation, GPS, mapping, and some basic data analysis.
- Perform varied data gathering and entry to create, maintain, convert, display and update GIS GDB/feature classes and/or metadata.
- Produce cartographic maps and other representations of data.
- Field work to visually locate items to resolve conflicting information and ensure accuracy of data.
- Record and document details of map updates, additions and/or deletions.
- Basic knowledge of GIS languages (Python, SQL, VB, other).
- Produce documentation and/or apply standard procedures for data integrity, dexterity, and QA/QC policy.
Additional duties and responsibilities:
- Performs professional level spatial analysis and cartographic presentations
- Working knowledge of Web-Based solutions
- Working level knowledge of GIS languages (Python, SQL, VB, other).
- Working level of GIS database structure and design, schema(s), protocol
- General knowledge of GIS Database Solutions
- Professional level of ArcGIS capabilities and technical solutions per client’s/contract requests
- Professional level documentation creation, QA/QC, SOP’s, RFI, RFP, standard practices
Qualifications and Skills:
- Entry level to 2 years of experience
- 2 years of experience working ArcGIS Desktop
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Computer Science or Certification in GIS
- Working knowledge of Python, Web development, FME and other scripting languages is preferred
- Knowledge of Electrical Utilities and their systems preferred
- Knowledge of AutoCAD or PLS-CADD preferred
